new thread up about spring matches, and yes Minnesota is coming
as is Kansas and Osaka.
24. i don’t know a whole lot more about who has applied.
agree it is curious the way they are doing it.
as mentioned previously, my feeling is they did it this way so that inquiries were directed to the AD and not to Shoji or Hall or Wade, all of whom were getting texts, calls and emails.
Rubio has been mentioned out in volley land just because of his friendship with Shoji, the same with Chris Lamb at Wichita State.
the other ‘local’ ties who have been mentioned, in no particular order, are Allen Allen, Deitre Collins-Parker, Reed Sunahara and Tita Ahuna.

It is a postion where UH goes out and gets the person it wants.

Cindy no doubt knows more, but she ain’t sayin’, probably because she promised not to.

My not-worth-very-much opinion: 1. Many wonder about the reasoning behind advertising for a coach if it is possible that Shoji is coming back. Shoji is not coming back, especially if they can get the guy they really want.

2. The smart people have not applied for a reason. They (and maybe UH, too) want to preserve appearances. The coaches need to be pullled kicking and screaming from their current positions; by applying for the UH job those coaches are not sending a nice message to their current employers. The coach needs to be able to say that he was minding his own business planning for the upcoming season and even after telling UH he wasn’t interested (by not applying), UH nonetheless barged in, made an offer he couldn’t refuse, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportinity suddenly presented itself. What could I do? I can’t turn this down; my family is ecstatic. It’s the only job that could take me away from here, but I never in a million years thought that I would have a chance. You get the idea.

Oh yeah, forgot about him. It is possible that if Matlin doesn’t like any of the 40 who applied, he will continue the process and could go after one of the 4 mentioned if they did not apply. Or announce Shoji is back, which makes this process academic (unless they go the HC-in-waiting approach Nebraska took with Cook). Or announce Shoji is retired and make a bigger push for new applicants. Or he may just hire someone who doesn’t get many of the fans really excited in the hope that person continues the program’s success. In other words, anything can happen at this point.

with head coaching experience Brent Crouch, portland head coach, was the 2016 WCC coach of the year. He likes recruiting in Hawaii a lot, seems to like spending time here period.

Sam Crosson, is slowly improving Cal Poly back to top 30 caliber.

Assistants, How about we take Sealys top assistant Kaitlyn Nielson, she’s the one responsible for a lot of their recent recruiting success. Personally I like Brad Keller who is the associate for Speraw at UCLA men, but he’s also coached women before.
