5. cindy well i found no evidence that specifically says an overhand serve is required in college. but more likely coaches and players would want to do so due to the ‘competitiveness of overhand serving’. noting the ncaa publications for womens volleyball says that an illegal service includes serving with two hands 13.2.2.1.3 which i doubt the reference to mean hitting the ball with 2 hands if thats the correct interpretation which i think it is. however the real wrinkle is that an illegal service includes failing to toss or release the ball before it is hit for service 13.2.2.1.5 which for an underhand they want to be aware of by letting go/dropping the ball slightly just before they hit it which is only slight difficulty. one popular perception is that underhand serves are easy serves like ‘free balls’ for the opponent. well its easier to receive provided your opponent see to the receiving. otherwise they can create easier aces because they can skim over the net and drop unexpectedly into holes on the opponents court. they sure are accurate if done correctly (which should still be simple) and wont be hitting the net or going wide and with not too much power (light-moderate power should be sufficient) shouldnt go long. their downside is that they are not as powerful as jump serves or floaters and may not be precise in targeting a specific receiver/area (since the ball is essentially lobbed over the net) but theyre pretty accurate to land inside the opponents court and wont result in service error. though brace and be ready to defend it should it go over the net just inside the 3 meter and somebody might stuff it back. it overall can be an efficient and sound serve especially when overhand serves are highly erratic during a game.

Big West now doing player, freshman and defender of week
POW went to CSUN’s Stinson, MVP from UNLV tourney where Matadors went 3-0. UH nominated Greeley.
Greeley also nominated for Freshman of Wee. That went to Fullerton’s Withers.
Mendoza nominated for Defender of Wee, that went to Fullerton’s Painton.

1. overhand required in college. I believe you can still do it in high school but club (after 15?) requires overhand. please correct me if I’m wrong.

Well not surprising they dropped, I actually thought they would fall below 22.

That seems pretty accurate as of now…hopefully we can clean up some of the rough edges by the time we play Oregon…need to serve better…
