After checking online, he indeed was recruited as a setter/opposite and started several matches at opposite in 2012. Before he took over the starting middle job in 2013, he was still training and backing up at opposite and setter. I wasn’t talking about his high school career, I was referring to his UH career.

He was also training as an OH. If I remember correctly, Wade once said something about him being looked at (at times, some briefly) at all positions except libero.

I thought he was also training for opposite before getting the starting job in the middle. I must have confused him with Timmer.

Averill was always a middle , in high school he was listed as a mb/s. When he was signed by uh the release called him a middle/setter.

What’s even more amazing was that Averill wasn’t originally a middle blocker, if I remember correctly. Wasn’t he a backup opposite and setter? And Sedore was initially a serving substitute. Congrats to them!

This was the most likely news I expected to hear. It’s the American view. We’re part of America in Hawai’i, but nationally, what better names to address than these two to represent UH Warriors. The better player and much well deserved on this year’s run to a national title run. Just fell short of that goal.
