warriors are #1 in the first RPI released today … plenty of matches left though. let’s see if that holds up … three (ucsd, ucla & stanford) of the four teams that hawaii has left on its schedule have very poor win/loss records, including ucsd who is 0-15.

Very impressed with Spieler.

Chemistry seems to be very important with women’s athletics. I remember once Al Scates said something along the lines that he could throw any 6 guys on a court and they could win (if they were good athletes/players).

I’m hopeful that Tiegs/Taylor can build that chemistry. Right now, it seems like they don’t have it yet. Still early though, but the Sand season is so short.

Fully Agree cindy. If not for tiegs, taylor and spieler would be the number one pair. Also, make spieler 5’9-6’0 and IMO, she would have olympic potential. She made some spectacular plays. I didn’t think she would have much of an indoor career playing behind longo, but on the sand, she’s just a totally different player. She is truly a great athlete.

Tucker’s back issues forced them to switch pairs. We’ll see who they use this week.
19. it’s Ostrander’s second year in sand. Thought she played pretty well.

Tiegs-Taylor have a different style than Spieler-Urban for sure. And it was a different style than Spieler-Taylor from last year. Out of the four, feel that Spieler is the best of the group. very smart player.

22. I agree that you can be short while playing sand, but you don’t want two short people. You need someone tall to make those crucial blocks and hard hitting kills.

23. Thank you! Im excited to have 3 jump servers on the team in Manu, Higgins and Taylor. Along with granato, who’s serve is pretty good (possible starter). Hawaiis block and serving should be equally as tough this year.

8 nikki actually jump serve against texas on Thursday and she had a pretty good run on the second set. And yes! I wasn’t as powerful as Higgins but it looks good

I like that Tiegs and Taylor is switching now giving Tiegs a chance to block ‘ coz i think that’s the biggest adjustment for her. I think she never have a partner as big as nikki before which makes her a primary defender.

IMHO Urban/Spieler are playing better ball and should be #1 …when Tiegs and Taylor get more comfortavle together I agree that they will be UNSTOPPABLE!

Yes it would be nice that both girls could be tall however in beach its not uncommon for the small to be a defender. Wong orantes is just above 5 ft herself and on #1
