The two matches between UCI and The Beach have both been protested.
The protest by the Anteaters of the Sept. match (won by the 49ers in five) has been upheld by the NCAA and THAT match played at UCI will be replayed from the contested point in Set 2. UCI was leading 20-18 but after the timeout, there was an issue with substitution and it went to 19-19. My understanding is that it will be played from 20-18 with UCI on serve.

Last night’s match won by the Anteaters in five in the Pyramid was protested by the 49ers after the match-ending point came on a Red Card to coach Gimmillaro. IF the NCAA decides to uphold that protest, the match would be played from 14-12.
No decision has been match as to replaying the final point.

56. posted that originally at 34 but worth repeating because it doesn’t seem like people read the whole thread.

58. doubt if it was in the back of him mind but you never know. Situations are different, Match 1 incorrect application of substitution rule.
Match 2 2 yellows in the same set equals a red and a point.
The play-by-play says at 14-12. YC to LBS HC.
then 15-12 when point awarded to UCI after RC to LBS HC

Tough way to lose a match and pretty extreme on the ref’s part but we all know how whiney certain coaches are.
It will be interesting to see how The Beach regroups to host UC Davis today.

You should know that BG is the crybaby type so I wouldn’t be one bit surprised that this protest is kind of a response to the UCI protest earlier. I can just picture him in front of some NCAA committee member crying…”You upheld their protest, then how come you don’t do the same for us?”

BG was chirping at Coach Hain as well, which the refs didn’t see because they had their back turned on him at that moment. The LB radio announcer even seemed perplexed by BG’s behavior and indicated that he also saw the ball that Dennis hit as in. The LB program and their team deserve better. Their athletic director would be smart to not submit a protest, but instead issue an apology.

“With the teams tied 3-3 in the fifth, UC Irvine went on a 5-0 run to lead 8-3 at the switch. LBSU battled back to within 12-11 on four consecutive kills from Barber, and got back within one at 13-12 with her sixth kill of the frame. UC Irvine’s Victoria Dennis put a kill toward the back line to put UC Irvine up 14-12, and that call resulted in an argument from LBSU head coach Brian Gimmillaro. He was issued a yellow card by the official for that argument, and was subsequently issued a red card when it was ruled by the officials that he had received a yellow card earlier in the fifth set. That red card carried a one point penalty against Long Beach State, which gave UC Irvine match point and the win.

Immediately after the match, Long Beach State lodged a protest with the match officials and will be submitting the appropriate documentation to the Big West and NCAA offices for review.”

Got to give credit to the refs for finally standing up to BG. It has been a long time in coming but he finally got what he deserved. Wahines catch a break but have some seriously tough matches coming up with the Beach, Irvine, Cal Poly and Gauchos. Hopefully lineup is finally set so the lineup can get some serious reps in before post season.

She is about 5-10 and does not jump well. Shoji probably have her in cause he doesn’t have anyone better and because of her live arm.

I do think McKenna is good enough for this team now but I fear she will be at a big disadvantage when we get into post season. Yeah…she can go off at any time and hit for lots of kills but she can also disappear too.

She is very up and down.

Not only is Taylor 6-foot-4 compared to the sub-6 feet Granato and Kan, but she also plays opposite, which means she has more opportunities blocking the opposing team’s most prolific attackers.

Mitchem’s 0.84 block average is so because she has been playing both MB and OH positions. Check her blocking numbers in matches when she’s playing OH: http://static.hawaiiathletics.com/custompages/Stats/Wvb/2016/plyr_8.htm

I’m not going to disagree with you about Granato’s pitiful block average. That’s just not acceptable.

bg gets a red card and loses tonights match
another poster talks about replay referring to the ‘wrong’ match
cindy then says it has to be replayed

the beach lost tonight due to red card, now is hawai’is chance! no more sleeping, get ready for tomorrow and then the beach and then irvine and the rest.

dominate. crush. destroy. – not dominate. go to sleep. and sleep some more.

personally i like someone quick and light rather than fast and heavy due to the latter being less maneuverable/nimble.

and even if ogilvie doesnt grow? make her a back row ‘attacking libero’ type ds who can do the pike attack or something.
