5. believe the quote was “to concentrate on academics.” True, it is a blanket statement, much as when coaches cannot legally discuss specifics of injuries without the student’s consent (HIPA), other than to say, “cleared to practice’ cleared to play. Or not cleared. Croson was an academic all-BWC after fall so she was not on academic probation for the spring semester.

The notion of an 8-team NCAA Men’s Volleyball Tourney was mentioned by the BYU Associate Athletic Director during an interview at intermission of the LBSU/BYU MPSF Championship match. Apparently, he led this year’s Selection Committee that chose the At-large bid (UC Irvine). In the interview, he mentioned that a new NCAA Men’s Volleyball league … the “Carolina League” … will begin next year. The winner of that league will play against the winner of the remaining lowest-ranked league (likely the MIVA) for 1 of the 3 automatic bids to the 2014 NCAA Men’s V-ball Championship. There will still be 1 At-large bid. His idea of an 8-team Tourney would have 4 At-large bids (50% of the field), which would be consistent with other NCAA championships in other sports. He admitted that it is dependent on resolving budgetary issues in the NCAA. But the startup of a new Men’s V-ball league is a move in the right direction to expand Men’s V-ball as a sport to more institutions. I personally long for the day that San Diego State and Loyola Marymount resurrect their Men’s programs.

Did he say academics was the reason or that she stay back to “concentrate on academics” which to me… anyone staying back for what ever reason… will “concentrate on academics” for they are students first then athletes later. You are either playing volleyball, and or attending to your academics, regardless how good or bad you’re doing in school. It could be a blanket statement (to concentrate on academics) that is given because well in any case its true for anyone and everyone without divulging into the real matter.

Cindy, are you saying Dave Shoji lied when he said it was academics? I never believed it had anything to do with academics, in the first place. I believe it has to do with Jane, and another player, not the team, who wants the team to be her own. And her idea of how the team should think, play, and practice.

WF, think I’m the one that floated the 8 out there.
Expansion has long been discussed.
Discussion is to make it an elite eight, much as the DII women’s tournament.
but they need some more teams to start sponsoring the sport.
