Think it hinges on how well the team does this season. All he has ever said to me is he doesn’t want a ‘farewell tour’ meaning announcement would come after a season and not before or during.

7. i would not blame UH dropping the third set on either Higgins or Granato
as for dropping Set 3 in conference, it happened three times out of 16 matches.
Think you need to look at the box scores before making some pretty broad statements
Against Long Beach State (3-2), they dropped Sets 1 and 3, Higgins didn’t play at all and Granato played in one set
Against UCI, Koelsch started and she and Higgins shared duties the rest of the way. Granato had nine kills and 12 digs in 4 sets when playing for the injured Greeley
Against UCR Higgins started, played all four but shared duties with Koelsch. Granato played in 2 sets.
so not seeing the ‘tired legs’ for Granato who, yes did improve during her freshman year.
9. Agree that Koelsch played well but as mentioned in the past, Higgins has the better location of the two.

Santana had a monster match for sure.UH’s middles also couldn’t deal with Tapp early.

new thread up for Monday

If Annie can play 6 rotations, this would allow us to sub the L-2 Castillo up front and Granado back row. I thought Kendra proved her value when Higgins was out but her playing time seemed to diminish as the year progressed. I think we have as good or better coaching staff as anyone in the country so I still like our chances to do very well this year

Objectively speaking, Tayler Higgins (5’8″) has trouble blocking 6’1″ OHs on the right, ditto Mckenna Granato (5’10”) trying to block 6’4″ opposites on the left. Moreover, as matches progress “tired legs” become a factor.

If one analyses conference games from last season, UH dropped the 3rd set several times. By then, Granato had no legs left and Higgins could barely reach above the net.

Against better competition, Daly Santana of Minnesota had no trouble against Higgins’ block and blew UH away in sets 1 & 2.

He said he’s working on a list of names of who the next coach could be and said there will be some interesting names on it. He said he should have retired after last season but decided too late. Granato is looking like the replacement for Tai, so far and Annie for Olivia.

The USA National Team has instituted a CAP program (Coaches Accreditation Program). The idea is to ensure that prospective coaches are capably trained in all aspects of volleyball. (Apparently, they felt there was a need.)

May be a matter of time before the NCAA starts instituting certification for coaches.

May-Treanor will be the head coach for the women’s volleyball team as well as a newly created beach volleyball team. She will also oversee the defending state champion LBCC men’s volleyball team.

Ka came to practice when he could, made some road trips. Real job is in finance. Also doing well on the AVPNext tour.

2. someone in my office asked about what non-teaching meant in regards to May. Unlike someone such as Pestolesi, who teaches as well as coaches at IVC, this means the DOVO at LBCC is non-tenured.
The Pestolesis daughter Kari, who played at UCI, just took the head job at Cerritos College. It is a tenured position which includes her teaching classes.

Hope he sticks around. Wasn’t there a really good lefty freshman in the Big West? It always helps to practice against leftys as they attack from a different angle.
