6. I watched the replay and don’t remember hearing that at all. may have to watch it again.
5. Hard to say how much of the A team this is for the U.S. Olympic selection still two years away.
Speraw is going very young during this World League, particularly at setter with Christanson.. He’s also gone relatively young for his coaching staff, as the broadcasters pointed out. Instead of the Beals, McGowns, etc., he’s brought in Sealy, Sullivan, etc.

Apparently he has a reputation among his US teammates that he is hard to get along with. This is the first time I have ever heard anything like this about this fine young man. What is going on with that? I’m shocked to hear that and find that very hard to believe. I know he is uber competitive, but that is why he is as good as he is, but have never ever heard about his “bad attitude” before.

So Eric Shoji had 31 excellent receptions and eight digs. Good for him!

As for the scores, you have USA ahead in four of the five sets. One of the scores must be reverse. Earlier today, #12 Iran took #1 Brazil in Sao Paolo to five very close sets with only a two-point difference in each. USA will have its hands full with Iran in a series exhibition matches in South California on August.. Schedule hasn’t come out yet, but I got an email about it from USA Volleyball. Here’s the description of the Brazil-Iran match:

Here are 15-minutes of YouTube highlights for anyone interested. Iran is a surprisingly scrappy team even if a little sloppy at time, but the highlights were real fun to watch: They sure can serve bullets!

I saw a tweet that said that Matt Anderson had 34 kills and Taylor Sander, 22. That is remarkable for a total newcomer, second best even among veterans! Glad I was able to see him play at the Stan Sheriff Center with BYU when I visited back in April.

Since I plan to be in California July and August, if I eve get to see the USA-Iran match, I’ll give you an on-site report about it if you have a blog about it like today.
