5. Anderson is an excellent passer.
10. Shoji is OK with the dump shot. but not his preferred first option.
Iosia used it effectively in high school. she’s done it a couple of times this season, usually more of a redirect on an off pass.
As for Burns, people read way too much into what they think players’ facial expressions are.

Dave is not too fond of the dump shot. He prefers his setters to set a hitter vs. attacking the ball. He goes irate when a setter attempts to dunp to no avail. Kendra is the best attacking setter UH has ever had. Very deceptive. Wish she would teach Iosia her skills.

For example, Ohio State’s setter (Taylor Hughes) registered 11 kills out of 18 attacks in the beat down of Nebraska. Her dumping also contributed to making MH Taylor Sandbothe the AVCA POW. (Think LBSU’s Janelle Hudson.)

Hawaii’s OHs are still struggling with the high ball setting. With the suspect passing the dump is the only other tool available to slow down the double blocks. Coach thinks very little of the dump, but it will open up both pins as well as the middle.

Time to think “out of the box”.

She was cool under pressure. I do like Emma Smith though.

actually shoji recruited savannah kahakai with a scholarship to be the libero, so she is also a ‘libero by design’, a ‘paid libero by design’ to be exact.

but anyways passing is an issue, and serving decisively may definitely be necessary so clare fits the bill, shes good enough of a ds to be an additional libero/defender thats for sure.

as for emma smith, she knows nothing but defense so there you go, nothing convoluted like turning an attacker into a defender.

Not sure what you mean by “libero by design”. Clare-Marie Anderson (No “i” in the Clare) is a DS. By top level standards, she really can’t pass (she was used as a passer vs. Wisconsin and really struggled to pass a decent ball). She is the top server off the bench. She has rarely been used to specifically defend or pass. Smith, by the way Shoji is using her, seems to be the libero behind Kahakai. She does the “typical” DS duties – pass, defend and serve.

good, no red eyes. somebody should tell the airliner not to delay too ;p

so one libero by design (claire)
and one who knows nothing but ‘libero-ism’ (emma)

sounds promising.

Always a cheerful smile but not this last game. Hope everything is okay with her.
