They are looking at the top ‘local’ indoor players. But they don’t need another setter. I thought the ‘Iolani setter is good but no room. Sometimes it’s about the mutual interest as well.

59. Iosia told me Wednesday she was 5-11. doesn’t mean she isn’t 6-0 when in shoes.
65. she also said it was always UH from when she was little.
69. Greeley never said she’d play beach, partly because of her shoulder. You may have seen her with Maglio, her roommate and best friend. They are pretty much inseparable.
All the indoor players work out on the sand as cross training in spring.

57. hard to say how much beach (formerly known as sand) draws. Last year first year with campus courts. Free admission, bleacher seating. They also play at Queen’s which draws a different crowd. A lot of tourists walking by.
Sounds like Hall will be making a push to get students to come out to campus matches.
It’s an emerging sport that will be in its first year of NCAA championship status after being under the AVCA aegis for the past few years. Hawaii one of the first to offer the max scholarships from the beginning. it was went from 3 to 4 to 5 and now capped at 6.

56. It’s a money thing. they don’t necessarily split it up 50 percent, meaning in men’s volleyball that it would give 9 players 50 percent of a scholarship. Some players have gotten a full ride and they divvy up the rest.
don’t know what you mean about where the other half goes. The NCAA limits men’s volleyball to 4.5 scholarships. That’s the max. Doesn’t mean all programs are fully funded. And then you have some players such as Umlauft who was able to get academic scholarship money so it freed up money for other players

I thought Greeley was going to give beach a shot. Saw her and Maglio hanging around the sand court and working out quite a bit. Guess Kalei’s chronic shoulder problems is too much.

Working out in the sand could help her with her vertical.

I don’t know how the SSC is now, but if you were there when the SSC first opened that was electric. Even in Klum sweating profusely was a great environment, hearing Tee’s shot bounce off the floor up close.

The SSC opened at the exact right moment in UH sports. With Angelica, Yuval, Alika and AC, Nani and BJ, etc all playing in the first few years of the opening.

After seeing the tip from Maverick I also watched the Stanford/Washington match. I concur with the thought that both teams are beatable by UH. I just hope we don’t have to play Washington on their court again.

I picked the right season to attend my first women’s volleyball games.

The energy in the Stan Sheriff Center is different.

Says Iosia is 5’10”. She picked UH over UCLA and LBSU apparently.
