If I remember correctly from the articles, it was said she redshirted her fourth year so that she could concentrate on winning back her starting spot (or at least move up the depth chart) the following year, since she lost her spot to Houston/Mason in 2005 after she got sick early in the season and never really played full-time (only as a server and back row attacker). Not questioning Shoji’s decision at all in 2005 – Houston was really explosive even as a freshman and Mason was a primary passer. But I have to wonder about Hittle playing so much – she was also sidelined early that year but then Shoji decided she had to be libero when she was unable to play front row, and when she finally was cleared to play front row, majority of her attempts were either getting dug, blocked or hit out – it lasted for the entire rest of her OH career.

It was Hewitt’s back that led to her decision. Kitaguchi wasn’t going to play much, decided to concentrate on her pre-med, pre-nursing degree. (don’t remember which one, she had a lot of labs).
As for Arnott, she was red-shirting her senior year and never returned.
You’ll see Kam against local DII teams this season. She is with Fresno Pacific. Hagins with Idaho. Ferrell went to Florida, Simmons to Louisville. Ong to Holy Names.

She was All-Region HM as a sophomore, relegated to backup as a junior, redshirted her fourth year “with hopes of earning a starting/prominent role the next year” to finally foregoing her senior year. I thought that was strange. Should have played her fourth year, no matter how little her court time might have been.

Hedder Ilustre was fantastic. Man, she knew how to dig a ball.

Mason wasn’t offered a scholarship initially; she was an invited walk-on. She chose to take the scholarship from Oregon.
