Don’t understand the animosity towards a sport you don’t follow. So what if they got $60 per diem. That’s what the NCAA gives them. Which is more than they get from UH during travel days. It happens in all sports. It is mostly used to cover meals and, in men’s volleyball where there are only 4.5 scholarships, $60 goes a long ways for food.

14. Good points that Hawaii had been on the road for over a week with the MPSF tournament and then to Stanford. Plus they had been at BYU several weeks earlier. Came home to play Long Beach State then left again.
Penn State has made 17 consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament. Mentioned before the match that experience would be a factor.
And several of the Warriors did take finals while they were at Stanford. Was the reason they had an academic advisor with them to proctor tests and study halls. People do forget that these are student-athletes and not professionals.

Penn State has been to the NCAA tournament nearly every year since they won it all in ’08. UH hasn’t been since 02 -and tournament experience MATTERS at this level.

UH played hard, to the best of their ability at the time, given the circumstances. They had been in California, sleeping in hotels and eating out for a week when it came time to play Penn State. I’m sure, given they are true scholar athletes, they were bothered by the number of classes they were missing with finals approaching.

The Nittany Lions slept in their own beds before, during and after their tournament was finished (they hosted the EIVA) and stayed in their normal routine in the days leading up to the match.

I love this team, and have nothing but kudos and high-fives for these young men AND the coaching staff. So, unless you have something useful to say, instead of mudslinging and hate from the anonymity of the keyboard, leave this board. Forever. Please.

and how it went what the previous seasons were like is why i say the mens team sxxxs.

and its why i dont normally watch mens volleyball. all about power and if not pretty limited particularly with libero and substitutions. lacking of finesse compared to womens volleyball.

4. bottom line when its crunch time the opponents especially penn st came to play. the men and coach wade treated it (especially pertaining to the first two sets) as though it wasnt important, as though they have no will to win and it was something to skate off on. oh well. too bad they aint collecting any more $60.

In order for this program to get to the next level, the University needs to give in-state tuition to all the team members from the mainland.
That would would make recruiting a lot easier for Wade.

Also need to find a way to get more of the top in state talent home. Wade is off to a good start with Austin Matuatia. Probably the first time that I can remember where UH has gotten the top prospect in the state. I think he will be a fantastic college player.

Hear, hear. I mean, with all the effort a University of Hawaii team must, well, endure . . .

Should’ve added “. . . endure GOING ON THE ROAD/most travelled university . . ..” Duh.

Questionable lineup against PSU.

Hear, hear. I mean, with all the effort a University of Hawaii team must, well, endure . . . wouldn’t a coach from there pull out ALL the stops until the ultimate victory? I don’t get it sometimes. Well, if Wade (who is a luminary who will stop and chat with you) took something away from this to go forward, so be it.

THIS having been said . . . was a neat season to watch. Here’s to an even greater season next . . . uh . . . season.
