The Orange County Register listed her on their commit list from last week.
Yes, daughter of former UH dual athlete Jason.
she’s listed as an OH-L. not sure what the plans are for her.

He talked mostly about the bright future of sand ball and about his hopes for the future for this UH sand ball squad. If he talked about the strategy involved in the ranking and placement of teams, I missed it. I did hear him say that the in -door team was really working hard and he thinks we will be a final four team. He said the this upcoming team will be better than last year because of the improvement of certain individuals and the experience gained last year.

But was often reminded by our opponents who had short OH hitters and they were very effective against us this past season even though our team was one of the best blocking teams in the country. There will always be a place for them, quickness, hops, Volleyball IQ and desire can still transcend in the Women’s game. On the men’s side, how about Micah Ma’a as a “short” player model. Love what the Wahine has accomplished and still sustaining…in today’s game…

Believe the TWO Mckennas will continue to remind us that under 6′ players play BIG.

Great insights by everyone. I totally agree 5’10” in today’s standards are Libero’s or DS.. The setters are even getting over 6’1″ and talker….The days of 5’10” OH and MB are long gone at a competitive D1 level…. They just cannot go over bigger blocks !!! Its not their fault. It’s just the truth! Unless your LeBron James or Kobe Bryants daughter..

IF we are able to move things around to take advantage of the up and down rule, then all is good. I mean Claes/Hughes are human and they can be beat, it just does not happen a lot, if at all. I can’t recall their total team record through the years. So, why not throw in a “sacrificial lamb” to them and try to win the other flights. Players have moved around so much this year, that they can pretty much go from 3 to 1 because they may have played a 2 at some point in the year.

Besides, best individual players don’t always play well together. So, who is to say who is your top ability player. I honestly can say, I don’t think Hawaii has really determined that yet, so it can still be played around with within the up and down rule. There are lots of combos and situations that can happen. It’s about sitting down and seeing how far up or down each player can go and who plays best together. If you are able to put your top 3 in the 2, 3 and 4 flight, then I say go for it.

From the NCAA Beach Volleyball rules:
“Team Line-ups: Coaches are responsible to position their teams in order of ability for ALL matches from the first match of the season to the last match of the season.
a. Within this guideline, line-up changes are restricted to one position up or down from one event to another.
b. If a player is injured and misses one or more matches, she returns to the line-up in her old position, and may be moved from there in subsequent matches as warranted.
c. The one-up/one down regulation applies to pairs events also (i.e., a #1 team cannot play in the #3 spot or vice-versa).
d. Transfers at quarter break or student-athletes joining the sand team from the court team after the beach season has started should be placed in the line-up by ability.”
At this point in the season, the pair rankings for the top teams are likely pretty well known by all. By the rules, teams must submit all their line-ups ranked by ability, and movement in rank is limited to one up or one down from the last event to the next event. At this point in the season, I think this will be watched closely by the competition and NCAA officials.

If they play USC again, possibly for the NC, I think they should put the lowest available pairing to play the #1 flight. What is that the current #3 team? They can move 2 places, right?

Then stack the #2, #3 and which ever other flight they beat USC with, I forget. Win the earlier flights. Don’t let Claes/Hughes play a factor into USC winning that match. We have proven we can win the other four flights with various other lineups. I think Mags/Spieler have the best shot at USC #2. They beat them before.

Time to get strategic here!!
