He said Jim has always loved Notre Dame. And that this allowed his family to be closer to the grandparents and other relatives. Rick said he was not surprised that his brother took the ND job.
I am a little only because Jim loves to surf.

23. There were extenuating circumstances with McCutcheon taking the Minnesota job.

If you remember he accepted UCLA, then changed his mind when Hebert left UM. Hugh’s wife Wiz Bachman was from Minnesota and you might recall that her father was killed during the 08 Bejing Olympics when Hugh was coaching the U.S. women.
He took the job so they could be closer to her family.

Hawaii statistically was the better team, and USC should of lost, but jupiter took over in the fifth set. There was a reason hawaii was ranked fifth at the end and got eliminated in the round of 16. And not to mention, that USC team was staked with fab 50 and top ten players. hawaii had 2. Croson and danielson and thats ALL theyve gotten since prep started. Meanwhile, texas currently has TEN top ten recruits on their roster. But we still beat them.

Agreed cindy. Dunning would never come down.

I wouldn’t mind wong. He’s always been a great recruiter and a great coach. I would love for him to take over for Hawaii. And don’t be shocked if a top coach decides to come to Hawaii. I mean Jmac left WASHINGTON for notre dame. I know he has connections and notre dame is notre dame, but it is possible for a top coach to leave. Just don’t think it will be dunning.

Kevin would make a great coach, with his connections everywhere and him being a volleyball name.

Also Karch would be nice, but I doubt he would take a job In hawaii. But hugh took minnesota so we will never know. If we could land karch, recruiting would SKY rocket. Overall, I dread the day we lose dave. He’s a legend, but Hawaii will be a great hands with whoever they hire.

All depends on who is available qualified and the timing of the decision. And the agenda of the selection committee.

Think Wong would be considered a front-runner if he decided to come back. and his resume is made stronger by his new head coaching experience. Need someone who knows how to recruit to Hawaii.

How many scholarships do programs have to offer? As Brandon pointed out, PSU didn’t need much and I believe they consider Puerto Rico “foreign’ even if it is a U.S. territory or possession or commonwealth. Un-state I guess.

Hawaii didn’t lose a lot either (Long, Mendoza, Adolpho) they get 2 Fab 50 and the two-time JC player of the year. And a freebie to be named with Huff moving to basketball scholarship.

But if Hawaii had been treated fairly by the NCAA selection committee the past decade or so … Just look at the last regional Hawaii hosted. Stacked with Hawaii, SC, Pepperdine and if Nebraska hadn’t faltered, they would have been out here as well. Can’t fight the agenda of the selection committee.

Hawaii remains relevant and still considered a top program. Coaches from the BCS/Power 5 schools are all amazed that Shoji can do it with all the handicaps.

Was Haley wrong when he said on national TV during the selection show “Occupy NCAA

no one said it was his last extension. so 2017 might not be the end.

18. it won’t be Dunning. I think Ahuna deserves a shot but she’s been out of the college coaching=recruiting circles for quite a while

Not that I would want him, but he’s not a bad cosch. Poor recruiter? Yes, but far from a bad coach and UH loved him.

My dream coach is dunning. Great man and great recruiter, but he’ll never leave stanford. Salina would also make a good choice
