Thanks
Guess I’m a little biased about our coverage at the late Star-Bulletin. We gave volleyball the same treatment as ‘the other paper.’ The only reason there might have been a little less was that we didn’t have a Sunday paper back then. But I always had a followed in Monday’s paper from the time I started in 1981, a year after Ann.
As for going online, the SB was one of the first newspapers to do so in 1996
The Tiser resisted, finally doing it in 2001 (sorry, hardly shortly after ‘-) but i did admit my bias to start)

Ann’s (and also Cindy’s) stories online — when the Star-Bulletin went online, followed shortly by the Honolulu Advertiser — were a way for me to keep track of what was going on with Hawaii volleyball when I was away at college on the East coast back in the late 90s. In fact, when both papers developed a web presence, it was a way for me to keep track of what was going on in Hawaii in general! But the stories in the paper were well before the blogs, and just a few years before volleytalk (and its precursor sites/forums).

If nearly all other newspapers gave volleyball half the words and column inches that Ann has devoted to it over the years, then maybe the sport would be larger than it is. Certainly, more widely recognized and supported, as it is here.

What’s a Wahine fan going to do? You two covered every angle of the Wahine mystique and highlighted aspects of volleyball that helped fans understand and appreciate the finer points of the game. You helped make the players part of the greater ohana and humanized them for us. TV was there and radio, too, but your writing made lasting memories and so personalized the players great and not so great for us. You and Chris M. gave us insights into the mind of Coach Dave and some of his ‘favorite’ rivals. You helped us understand the importance of games during the season and post-season. And are as responsible as anyone else for the place the Rainbow Wahine program holds in our hearts and minds. So mahalo Ann, enjoy retirement and have a long and healthy life. It won’t be the same without you for sure. And Cindy don’t give up on us just yet, stay healthy and keep writing and blogging (sp?). Go Wahine!

As of today. Unofficially UH is at 11 unmodified RPI. Keep in mind, this is just snapshot of the RPI. Tomorrow the official RPI update will come out.

Makes some sense as last season some Sand only players were cheated out of practices with their partners as Indoor players were required to attend Spring practices and travel as well. That’s a lot on the indoor player, let alone not fair to the Sand player that looses their partner 3-4 practices a week.
Hoping for a hosting of the Wahine in the first round … GO BOWS!!!

They exploited UH’s predictability and weakness making Coach Shoji and his staff to make changes which does appear to make them more unpredictable. This will make UH contend and give them a greater chance to get to the final four and hopefully win it all.

Thus a lawsuit making sure the NCAA must follow their own mandate needs to be established. If they don’t it appears a matter of discrimination against the UH Wahine volleyball team which are made up of human beings. Being it involves people and how they are made to feel due to the NCAA subjective seeding are grounds for discrimination.

What makes this program special is not only the team; when TV programing was not ready the announcer recognized both Cindy and Ann Miller – hurrah to both of them for work well done. Two more games, if the team is peaking they need to maintain focus and “get it done,” if not, all the speculation of hosting or not is moot. To predict the future, foresee change and as lesson learned for ALL, the NCAA will do the right thing – here’s to us hosting. Go Rainbow Wahine….

Don’t worry (about the future) every little thing gonna be all right.
