22. They were sent to Louisville. Lost to Middle Tennessee State in the second round, which ran a very unorthodox offense and Hawaii had trouble blocking.

23. Hawaii has changed its offense from last year, using two posts. Thought they played pretty good defense, a couple of times shot clock was down to 2 or 3 and ASU scored.
The officiating continues to be horrible. ASU traveled so many times but it wasn’t called and their point guard continued to palm/carry the ball. also not called.

24. NCAA pays for all 64 teams travel during the tournament.

Shoji was asked on some talk show how much his team got from final four appearances. He said $0. it’s not like March Madness.

This year NCAA pays $3,000 for each final 4 participant (including family), but what about the other 60 teams? Where-ever the Wahine are sent the travel and accommodations should be up to par.

9. … Regarding Wahine basketball vs ASU, why don’t the Wahine use a zone defense sometimes ? The ASU players kept driving in on the right side for layups. Also, the Wahine couldn’t stop the ASU big girls much inside.
Beeman also said, in Cindy’s article today, that UH is not getting the ball inside to the Wahine bigs. Looked like the ASU defense was the major reason for that. ASU had no trouble getting the ball into their bigs.

warriorfan, be careful what you wish for in saying that if Ark. St. /W. Ky. host,u would want Hawaii to be sent to that region because if memory serves me well, many moons ago, UH Wahines went to Middle Tennessee or some midling school, and got blitzed in the first or second round…..it was just embarrassing…..those are the schools to fear the most….whereas Udub or USC we know what to expect but those mid-region schools can be mystifying which is why I have my doubts in playing them.

Yes. BYU made the women’s volleyball final four last year as a mid-major. However, I pointed out once before that schools with a national following, usually religious schools, can compete in football without being a member of the “power five” conferences. In 2015, these were Notre Dame and BYU, both football independents. Their national followings were Catholics and Mormons respectively. BYU is trying to join a power five conference, such as the Big 12 and Notre Dame, I’m sure, would be welcome by its members. Perhaps that is why Jim McLaughlin left Washington, besides family and associational reasons, to coach Notre Dame with its great potential for being a top volleyball school.

Big 12 STANDINGS . . . A year ago the Big 12 raised some eyebrows when 5 of its 9 members won bids to the Big Show, with Texas named the No. 2 seed. Big 12 teams came out of the Tournament with 5 wins, 5 losses (.500).

This year, Texas is again the league’s automatic – its 5th straight Big 12 crown – and the conference could get the same number of bids as last year.
1. Texas (25-2, 15-1)
2. Kansas (26-2, 14-2)
3. Iowa St (18-10, 11-5)
4. TCU (19-9, 9-7)
4. Kansas St (17-11, 9-7)

SEC STANDINGS . . . 5 teams from the 13-team SEC represented the league at the 2014 Big Dance (Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M), and those 5 teams combined for a 6-5 overall record (.545). At least 4 SEC schools will be at The Ball this year.

ACC STANDINGS . . . When people talk about the Power Five, that also means the ACC even though in vball many think the WCC is the 5th of the Power Five. In 2014, 4 ACC teams made it to postseason play (automatic-qualifier North Carolina, Florida St, Duke, and Miami) and the ACC teams ended the Tournament with a respectable 6-4 record (.600).

This year the ACC expects no less than 3 of its members to make the elite 64-team field.

2.Florida St (24-7, 17-3)
2. North Carolina (20-9, 17-3)
4. Syracuse (23-8, 14-6)
4. Miami (21-9, 14-6)

BIG TEN STANDINGS . . . Last year, 6 Big Ten teams were selected to the 2014 NCAA Division 1 Volleyball Championship tournament. Wisconsin, the automatic qualifier, earned the No. 4 seed while Penn State, the eventual champion, was No. 5 seed. Overall, the Big Ten teams ended the tournament with an impressive 17-5 (.773).

This year, it is possible that the 14-team Big Ten will have 7, 8 or 9 teams dancing at the Big Dance.

2. Nebraska (26-4, 17-3)
3. Wisconsin (24-6, 16-4)
4. Penn State (26-5, 15-5)

Stanford received the Pac-12’s automatic berth and the NCAA’s No. 1 seed, while Washington was awarded the No. 3 seed. All 10 Pac-12 teams won in Round 1, and at the end of the Championship Pac-12 teams won 17 and lost 10 (.630).
This year the Pac-12 can expect a smaller contingent – 7 or 8 teams—though at this point I am not sure which Pac-12 team won the automatic qualifier.

One more thing….Kalei’s shoulder will never be 100% until she gets surgery. She is only a sophomore, surgery, to me, is a no brainer during the off season. Especially is she really wants to make a difference for us the next couple years.

Also….there is no way Hawaii hosts this year. Just no way. I would die of shock if they did. Even when they are near the RPI hosting range, it’s a long shot if the NCAA gives them a top 16 seed. It is very sad and frustrating that a computer with just the most stupidest criteria using your opponents’ opponents’ opponents’ opponents’ win/loss, SOS comes into play in how you are placed during the postseason. Oh, and I know it’s not that many opponents, but it’s at least a couple of opponents opponents…STUPID RPI.

Sorry…one six pack too many Stella’s tonight. 🙂

Man….I hope this type of schedule never happens again. It feels like we only had 2 months of wahine volleyball this year. I’m having suicidal depression. Just kidding of course…..but man, I am some wahine volleyball withdrawals. Dave is just too nice of a guy. He is the senior coach among the coaches…and the most successful. What he says should go, but he’s so humble and kind. I would have made the basketball teams change their schedules!! But I’m not as nice as Dave.
