32. don’t think they kicked back. I think Osaka adjusted and also Hall changed up a few things, including rotating where Maglio started in the rotation.
Some of the runs came when Maglio wasn’t in the front row. Burns continues to be a bit lost out there.
As for Set 5, Kahakai chose side because that’s what is normally done. You want to be on serve-receive to start. But, as I quoted her in my story, she did give a little pep talk to her team before Set 5.

33. agree that Castillo looked better on the right. She is athletic. what has been holding her back IMHO is her hesitation to be as mobile as she was un high school before her injury. Not sure if she is still bothered by those leg cramps from fall.

36. there was a glitch with the livestats at 7-7. the wireless went out in the arena as well.

37. Ma’afala couldn’t play without her using up a season of eligibility. just the way the rules work.
not sure what match you were watching. Smith clearing the better of the DSs, and they have five of them. Felt Guinasso played well too.

Et al: it’s early. they’ve only been in the gym for a few days as the 20 hours of spring practice only recently started. too early for all this criticism. they know what they need to work on. plus this isn’t the team that will be in the gym come August. We will see how much the incoming freshmen can contribute.

Although not perfect it may improve last season’s low conference dig total.

Being smaller has it challenges and Osaka demonstrated how the lack of size maybe overcome. Believe these Spring games (good teams with different strengths) are a blessing. It’ll show each player what they have to improve on during the off-season.

Think we have good athletes and a balanced team for next season. -Go Wahine

I’m surprised Okino only played in one set. Hall was very high on her during the position breakdown article last year. It seemed he liked her better (skill-wise) than Smith and the other veteran DSs.

Great news about Mitchem. She wasn’t on the initial list of athletes. Do you know if she was invited and which position is she trying out for? Thanks for the info
