52. Granato has had more opportunities than Sibley, especially in conference.

Burns has better hitting stats than Castillo, but you have to remember that she only played two full matches as a middle since the conference matches began: vs. UCSB (7-1-9, .667) and Cal Poly (4-1-9, .333). She has since been sidelined because of Mitchem’s return to the middle, and when Mitchem started playing OH, Castillo was hampered by leg problems and either sat out or played very little. Also remember that the most attempts she had this season was vs. LBSU, when she hit .000 with 3 kills, 3 errors and 20 attempts as an OH, replacing Sibley in the lineup. The most attempts Castillo had as a middle were 18 (6-2-18, .222) vs. Arizona, coming off the bench and replacing Burns, and 10 vs. Northern Illinois (6-2-10, .400).

Both Burns and Castillo have ways to go to be an efficient middle, but I think Castillo is a bit ahead when it comes to closing blocks. There’s not much difference in the offense that they provide. Both aren’t the go-to scorers in the middle.

60. I guess we will see in a year or two lol. Remember while a high school freshmen seems very young, girls are committing now by their sophomore year , and at the very latest during their junior years.

I’d be happy if the wahine 2020 class is Mia Tuaniga and Elena Oglivie.

54. Mia is Gus Tuaniga’s and Josh Tuaniga’s ( long Beach setter) little sister
I’m sure Brian G will also be recruiting her as they will be losing a setter in 2020 also.

I believe Hawaii last had a lefty way back in the late 80’s with Johanna Sahm. I can’t recall another since then. I could be wrong

I did attend the UC Davis match last night.
I don’t watch enough matches to be able to intelligently comment on specific performances.
But I can say something about what the match “felt” like.
Official attendance was 739 with a very large portion of those Hawaii fans.
Yet there seemed to be a general lack of energy in the building as a whole.
Oddly, the section where the UCD supporters were concentrated in was not the two or four arena level bleachers opposite the scorer’s table and team benches as had been in so in the past, but rather the two sections towards a corner behind where the UCD team bench was for sets 1 and 3.
The rest of the audience was UH and UCD fans mixed together along the sideline bleachers (almost no one sitting in the end line bleachers).
Yes, I heard the various calls shouted out sometimes when UH was serving, (and not to excuse the poor sportsmanship of it) but it was very little and I’m sure the team has heard much worst.
Also heard the air horn which was followed immediately by the venue announcer reminding the crowd that was not allowed.

Lots of similarities between Norene and Mia., as a freshmen Norene’e team also loss in the CIF southern section final also in 5 sets but you could tell Norene was going to be a good one, same with Mia.
about the same height and build, Mia hits in the front row for Mater Dei and sets in the backrow.

Interestingly, don’t believe Sunshine or Smith (Emma came in with lots of laurels) are surprises. Guru Dave has sustained excellence for 42 years. Believe the next Hartongs are just around the corner in Sibley and Shaney and followed by Trinity Castaneda. Howling looks to be the next coming of Mitchem. Our legacy of having excellent setters continues with Noreen and the probability of Liliana Light in a year.

And in the present, supporting the Wahine to win out and on to the final four. Go Wahine
