11. Kaufman was at Pitt as a volunteer coach. Now an assistant at Duquesne. Was mentioned last month.

Very happy to hear that Burns is cleared to practice. I am certain that Sand has tremendously helped Maglio to become the 1-2 Punch with Nikki….I am sure the Sand has helped Castillo build leg explosiveness and confidence going into this season.. I am confident she will be good at MB with Burns awaiting Mitchem’s return…I cannot wait til 1st serve in 2 weeks versus Wisconsin. Huge Match!!! Go Bows!!

4. Mitchem should be able to do some things while healing. She has been involved with drills since her injury.
5. as mentioned before they are working on speeding up the offense. Wisconsin with its core of returnees will be a challenge.

In the loser-out match, Brazil survives against France.
Wednesday’s quarterfinals for the men:
Canada vs. Russian Federation
U.S. vs. Poland
Italy vs. Iran
Brazil ends up 4th in Pool A, plays Argentina the Pool B winner.

Regardless of who starts as MB a faster system would help. Faster sets to the outside, BICs, slides, and dumps will “stretch” the MB. Especially since Wisconsin’s Haleigh Nelson (6’4″ MB) is an AA and Tionna Williams (6’2″ MB) is an honorable mention AA.

Hoping that Annie can still do hitting and serving drills while healing. No digging or blocking, obviously. But if she can stay in hitting shape, at the least, her transition should be much smoother.

I am confident Castillo will do a great job. Just unfortunate that this happened to Annie again.

Hope whatever is going on with Burns gets better soon, as well.
