new thread up.

45. not sure where you’re going with it. Hawaii trains very hard in the weight room.
The athletes you mention were great in their day but this is not that era. Eleneki would be a libero now.

47. Hall is committed to both, as he has been since being hired in 2015
a few things that were apparent Thursday, Hawaii’s passing did not allow them to run the up-tempo they wanted and Iosia went to the high ball more often that anyone wanted.
Wahine staff undermanned with just Hall and Baxter. Minnesota had more assistants and, sitting next to UM when McCutcheon had several voices helping him out with in-game adjustments.

51. no, the spring matches were set before Shoji decided to step down. Schedule was done around spring break for several of the teams.

55. some of what you say is true but Maglio wasn’t doing all the double days. what hurt was Hawaii did little blocking practice.

Hawaii has also been moving towards all sand but if indoor want to play beach, they won’t say no. This double schedule (beach-indoor in spring) has been happening for a few years. not sure why some are just noticing it now.

but do agree there was a lack of inspired play Thursday and don’t think it had anything to do with some of them also playing beach. IF they came to beach practice this week, it was on a volunteer basis. by NCAA regs, athletes are limited to 20 hours of practice, and the indoor players have been committed to the 20 hours of indoor. Think Maglio was the only one who ‘volunteered’ to be a beach this week. and that wasn’t every day.

as for the Gophers, All-American setter was exceptional. Main issue was Hawaii’s passing, trap sets by Iosia and hitters not being smart with their shots. Gopher libero had 27 digs and also was exceptional.

IMHO, if Hawaii hadn’t committed the four service errors in Set 1, they would have won that on and then who knows what the psyche would be.

His outsides are shorter but dynamic and quick as that is the path the coach has deemed best fits their recruiting. Take away one player and it’s not so lopsided. Alexis Hart was amazing with 25 kills but she took the majority of the swings and she faced a middle in Natasha who was fighting an illness and Maglio who has been practicing twice a day while also an integral part of Sand team. Both had no legs and were consistently late closing the block and Hart hit cross court all night long with nobody there. During the regular indoor season she will be accounted for and while she is quick with a great arm swing she is not the type of 6′ athlete that jumps and hits over people. But her timing with their setter was exceptional. Anybody there could see the Wahine did not play inspired volleyball and with several playing sand this was a good example of why schools like SC are going towards no crossover players. If Tui were playing spring football while in volleyball season he would just not be the same player. I think we’ll be very different when Fall arrives.

Website lineup has last name listed first – Morgan, Taylor.

Compared to Minnesota, Hawaii is slow of foot.

Sounds like it was a rough night for the Wahine. Knowing now that Ah-Mow Santos is not going to be here until April 1, could the Wahine have moved Spring practice to start after April 1? I know that teams were already booked and that hindsight is always 20/20.

Also, can anyone remind me about Kendra. Was she originally recruited for beach and then when one of the Goodman’s left, Kendra was able to get an indoor scholarship? Also, was she a setter in high school and club or trained as both setter/hitter?

Thanks for all the hard work you do.

Granted playing in beach contributed to the loss more than any other factor, playing uninspired is primarily because their head coach was not there. All fixable. What is not, is the fact that NaWahine lack a terminator the team can build around. Hopefully I’m wrong and Coach Robyn hire is the best thing since sliced bread.

I; however, am extremely nervous about tonights mens match at Provo and the ladies matches on Queens Beach. BYU fans of my acquaintance are so smug. I hope the weather is better on Oahu than it is on Maui right now

I think with Beach in full swing now maybe Hall’s mind is more on whats happening outside.
I’m eager to see what Robyn will bring to the table.
Way to early to see how this team will do but i would guess maybe 3rd or 4th in conference.
