Cindy, agree about Gustin. Her last two years, she missed a lot of matches, and had to play on a limited basis when she first got on post injury. If she had not been injured (or moved to OH in 2001), she would have made All-America her last three years. She already made All-Region, if I’m not mistaken, as a freshman.

Scott Wong just asked me how many 1,000-kill players did it in the rally score era. Hadn’t been taking that under consideration. When you think of some of those marathon matches pre-2001. the opportunities for more kills were there based on being able to have more attempts. sooooo
of the 18: 4 pure rally score in Houston, Danielson, Cubi-Otineru, Hartong
3 that crossed both eras: Willoughby and Gustin both 00-03, meaning 3 seasons of rally score
Kahumoku 99-00 02-03 had two years of each.

as for the players you mentioned who hit better from the left than the right … last night, Texas’ left side hitters were blocking the UH right sides. that was a very big block over there.

With as many (Tai, Kastl, Ginger, Taylor..who played well, but hit better from the L than the R) there, the LS will take care of itself.

I agree with Granny in that I am amazed by Emily’s humbleness. She does her job and is a real team player. Last night’s game was my all time high…I went home and watched the replay. I enjoyed the post game interviews. Wished they had interviewed Hartong about her milestone…hope they do it tonight. Cannot help but think this is the high Shoji will go out on…sad about it but hope he is looking forward to a well-deserved retirement…whenever that is…

Just back from the match. Texas swept UTEP 3-0 this morning. Texas did not look impressive in doing so. Perhaps it was a letdown for Texas or the fact that UTEP is a very scrappy team. It DID take a set off San Diego yesterday. Hawaii should not overlook UTEP.
