If you read the story I did a few weeks ago, it explains what would happen should UCSD become a Big West member.

Cal and Arizona (not ASU) are the ones with really good club teams but there is no interest from their athletic departments to upgrade to DI status. Much is involved, including gender equity numbers. However, IMHO, with schools adding beach volleyball with 6 scholarships, they should then add men’s volleyball (4.5) to balance it out.

6. not necessarily true. the conference would have to then mandate that all schools have broadcasts and that may or may not happen. If you look at the Pac-12, not all matches are available online. All depends if you do video. Many of the Big West women’s volleyball matches are streamed but no audio. It’s just filmed from the scouting cameras.

Also consider that not all Big West schools have video replay, which is supposed to be mandatory for basketball. There have been issues during games where officials cannot review plays because of the lack of video replay.

Not like UH has a choice. Once the Big West decides to make its own conference for Men’s Vball, they are obligated to be a member since they are members in other sports. No way the Big West would allow them to remain a member of another conference unless the Big West does not offer that sport.

Once UCSD joins, they will have enough teams for a conference and UH will be in the Big West for men’s vball as well. I just posed the questions since if the Big West teams leave for their own conference, then that would leave the PAC 12 and the WCC teams left.
