The Wahine volleyball program is one of only three or so sports at UH that show a profit. They need to help the UH athletic program financially when they can, especially now.

Done right with the right competition and venue, it can help with RPI, preparing for post-season, recruiting, and with sustaining/building its Mainland fan base. Might even generate worthwhile media coverage that could also cover expenses. Lots of transplanted Hawaii fans that would love a chance to see them, and lots of Mainlanders that might be converted into Wahine fans. Might also help garner some AVCA and NCAA goodwill.

UH has proven it has the talent to win away from home against top 25 competition. Name of the game is to play a very high level slate of opponents in the preseason if UH has hopes of a seed next year, even if that means traveling to play a Nebraska or other top team.

Now its time for a Big 12 team to make the trip…

Watched it again last night and it still was exciting and uplifting. Given we won’t have much to talk about regarding the indoor team until next summer, others may find the replay worth seeing. A good pick-me-up if you want one.

Of more import is NCAA adoption of video replay to eliminate bad calls. Considering that Texas beat Florida on a bad call in the fifth (17-15), I would hope that does not happen to Hawaii next year. Moreover, the implementation of faster sets and offenses will level the playing field and give hope to less talented teams. I would not be surprised to see Russ Rose and Penn State join the fast lane, as their talent level is insufficient to guarantee success. Ditto Hawaii, although without reliable passing the point is moot.
