General volleyball: Former Minnesota coach Mike Hebert passes

I am traveling to mainland so on and off the blog the next few days.

Appreciate the heads up on previous thread
Mike Hebert, who coached at New Mexico, Illinois and Minnesota among other places, was a kind man and great coach.
Would see him occasionally at the Olympic Training Center and he was always accommodating when I did stories on Dave Shoji. They were at UCSB together and fraternity IM rivals.
Texted my condolences to Shoji today. He said Mike was one of his playing idols and that he had hops in VB

Sorry getting back to the men’s program I was just thinking about loosing Joe W, who do we have as setters? I think I completely blanked on who his replacement was? Also I know this is kinda early but who is RAM thinking for setters for next. year considering our 2 setters this year are seniors?

T103 – the setters are Jakob Thelle & Jackson van Eekeren (and possibly Brett Sheward). I’m not gonna speculate on who will start. I’ll leave that to the coaching staff.

I think Riley Waggoner would be an awesome setter. She is a good passer and has good volleyball IQ.

I believe Katherine Lang has committed for next year. Supposed to be a pretty good setter out of Keller High School in Texas and TAV on the club side.

    1. as mentioned on previous thread, the roster is up at hawaiiathletics.com. Also did a story in the paper about their road trip that speaks to the setting and other returnees.

    3. she might be OK but there is no time to convert her to one at the DI level. Van Sickle would be a better choice since she played before.
but, as 4. says, they have a commit for next year.
