Mindset for the Wahine. They’ve done all they can do. Players said too many possibilities so no sense worrying about it.
Shoji still thinks they have a shot to host. But also said they could be on a plane Monday night.

Don’t think NCAA [Selection] Committee will send UH to the UCLA subregional (if UCLA does host — and that’s far from a certainty) since the teams already met this year.

Appears that of the MidMajors, BYU appears to be the most likely to be 1 of the 16 seeds. The WCC will get 2 bids — automatic qualifier BYU/15rpm [26-3, 16-2] and runner-up San Diego/28rpi [21-9, 14-4] — but may get as many as 4 bids if the WCC’s “bubble” teams — Loyola Marymount/29rpi [22-8, 13-5] and Santa Clara/37rpi [22-8, 13-5] — are awarded with at-large invitations.

Going to be very interesting to see where the NCAA [Selection] Committee sends the Mountain West (Colorado St/31rpi [26-3, 19-0] which just beat Iowa State in a nonconf. Saturday match), Big Sky (Northern Arizona/35rpi [28-4, 14-0]), and WAC (New Mexico St/64rpi [28-5, 14-0] champs.

Also still interested if Long Beach State/63 rpi [25-6, 13-3] of the Big West gets a unexpected at-large bid as it sits on the “bubble” along with a number of other MidMajor league runner-ups as MidMajor conferences get second serving only if there’s something left after the Power5 pig out on first serving of the NCAA [Selection] Committee.

If we are sitting on pins and needles waiting for Selection Sunday, you can imagine the pressure that’s on Na Wahine and Team Shoji.

24, agree. after watching UCLA peaking with USC and Stanford, i would like to stay away from the Pac 12.. entirely.
Midwest (SEC) would be a better start for Hawaii. Hoping against hope for a host but if not, those choices you mention seem more palatable than our usual NCAA ship out. Just saying..

I feel bad for Mitchem. We have her for only 2 years and may not have her during the post season run. Was really hoping she would be the X factor for us this post season. Man…her finger must have really been f&^*&ed up!!

And…I think Rolo was a good choice. I remember when he was playing, I thought he had what it took to lead a team one day. Hope he does well.

I’m torn who I prefer UH to play, I know UCLA has less weapons than Stanford but the UCLA backrow defense gives UH fits and Stanford seems slower in the backrow and to close the blocks, however if Hodson gets hot or UH doesn’t serve tough enough Stanford can go to their 6’8 middle and she will be hard to stop. BYU with the altitude won’t be good with UH’s serving, since I think BYU is probably the weakest passing team of the seeds.
I think I actually would prefer UH gets Kansas , Texas A&M or Missouri, but not sure if the Travel will tire the team out.

Obviously I’m hoping UH will be able to host, but if not I’d like to see them get sent to Stanford. I’ll be on a business trip to San Francisco next week and it would give me a chance to attend both UH’s first match and, if they win, their second.

11,17,20. IMO, UH lost out on seeding when LBSU fell out of the top 50 RPI rankings, and is projected to stay out even with a win against Denver in its last match. UH only has two top 50 RPI wins, which the selection committee will look unfavorably upon. Below I compare the 2013 (Hartong’s senior year) and 2015 teams using some of the committee’s seeding criteria, plus the AVCA poll which is NOT considered (criterion: 2013 results as of the time committee made its selections, 2015 current results):

Record: 24-4, 26-1
Overall RPI: 17, 26
Non-conf record: 11-1, 10-1
Non-conf RPI: 4, 17
Conf record: 13-3, 16-0
Conf RPI: 8, 14
Road record: 7-2, 8-0
Record last 10: 8-2, 10-0
Record vs top 50 RPI: 6-2, 2-1
vs 51-100 RPI: 6-1, 6-0
vs 101-200 RPI: 5-1, 8-0
vs 201+ RPI: 7-0, 10-0
AVCA rank: 12, 8
Seed: 11, TBD

Clearly the 2015 team has a weaker resume than the 2013 team, which ended with the 11th seed despite not having a top 16 RPI. I have seen one projection of UH’s final RPI at 26th, and it is difficult to see UH jumping 10 spots to a 16th seed even if UCLA had beaten Stanford tonite. If the AVCA poll were considered and LBSU was a top 50 RPI team, then I would give UH a good shot at a seed. But not this year. Just wishful thinking at this point.

More interesting to discuss where you’d like UH to be sent. I prefer UCLA by far. Most beatable of all the teams mentioned given locational considerations/home court/etc. (assuming UCLA, UW, USC, Stanford, BYU host). UH would be playing UCLA a second time and it is more difficult beating the same opponent twice, especially when fairly matched. Plus UH would be highly motivated to win. Then I would pick BYU, Stanford, and finally UW/USC. I hope the committee considers UH to be the strongest non-seed and gives a favorable bracket, but not holding my breath.

In the Friday matches that UH fans had the most interest:

1. UCLA loses 2-3 at Pauley to Stanford. . . . After Oregon St upset #23 Arizona St on Senior Night, it was too much to expect the Beavers — which has faced the fifth-toughest schedule in the nation, according to the NCAA — to do the same to the Ducks. OSU (6-24, 4-16 Pac 12) ended its season with another lost.

2. Long Beach St (24-6) took out the broom over Pacific, and if LBSU can win its last match (vs. Denver) it can make a case that its 12 Ws out of its last 13 matches deserve “bubble” consideration by the NCAA [Selection] Committee.

3. Seed No. 1 Wichita St made it to Saturday’s finals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament for the automatic qualifier to the Big Show, but its rival Seed No. 2 Southern Illinois U didn’t as SIU was swept by Seed No. 3 Missouri St. Bears.
