Just spoke to her. USC was interested in her as a walk-on FIU as possible scholarship player. said USC might have been too close to home, wanted something different. Both of her parents spent time in Hawaii when they were younger.
She said beach was a passion and that she hoped she could also do that.

Arden can hi really wel. She definitely looks like one of those walk ons that show alot of promise , like Juliana Sanders.

  2. Volleyman November 18, 2016 7:16 pm

what a find. Arden seems like a very physical player. With some work on her passing, I think she can crack the starting lineup sooner than expected of a walkon.

  3. hollycow November 18, 2016 8:51 pm

She really has a quick swing, and gets on top of the ball. With the UH’s training she may develop into a terminator on the outside. I can see her starting in the second year at UH.

Having worked with Noreen in the past, should help her get a fast start. Back to the here and now, we only need to win the next seven matches. No problem!

1-2-3. she is an unknown at the college level. some develop quicker than others. Hawaii again will have a lot of depth so we’ll see who gets playing time next year.
    4. agreed it helps to have played with Iosia before.

  7. T103 November 19, 2016 6:28 am

Depth of bench is great! Excited about all the new recruits coming in. @Cindy, so is or was or will there be an announcement from BW regarding BG (if that was speculated to happen couple days ago?).

    3. I don’t see a walk-on starting on the outside on her second year. Scholarship players are fighting just to get on the court. When was the last time a non-libero walk-on started on her second year? Let’s not include Sanders, who while a walk-on her redshirt year, had some sort of arrangement that she would be on scholarship for the next four years.

I don’t remember a lot of front row walk-ons, but I remember there was a 6-1 middle blocker named Paige Mitchell in 2009, and a 6-0 middle/right side Caroline Blood (2004-2007).

  9. Ron November 19, 2016 7:52 am

This walk-on had to have the strong endorsement of Iosia and Smith for the Coaches to even talk to her. She seems to be very strong academically with a volleyball upside that is perfect for Dave’s stall to develop. Win-Win for Arden and the Wahine.

Cindy, in regards to Pestolsi, will he be rejoining the team for the post season? Our sincere condolence to the Pestolsi family with the passing of Diane’s mom.

I remember pulling up to the dorm to pick up a friend while Diane was sitting outside waiting for her ride so I struck up a conversation about her making AA. She was such a nice person and genuinely modest, considering that she was a 3 times AA and won the Broderick award winner as the nation’s top collegiate volleyball player.

  12. livealoha November 19, 2016 11:12 am

She seems like a pretty decent pick up as a 6’2 walk on. Based on the video, she’d be able to play at some D1 school. Wonder if she picked up the sport late, which is why she was under the radar. Hard to believe she didn’t have more opportunities, even from the lower third of D1 volleyball.

Paige Mitchell only redshirted. I saw her practice here and there, she wouldn’t have grown much at the level Hawaii was at. Not surprised she left. Blood was pretty good. I remember she came in a lot toward the end of blow outs and always put down kills. She could definitely have started D1 at a Top 80-130 type of school.

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. We’ll see in a couple years.
    9. Aloha Ron!

    11. Tom’s the same, easy to talk to, very conversational, humble. I feel very fortunate to have a few conversations with him.
Passing my condolences to to the Pestolesi and Sebastian Ohanas.

  15. tako November 19, 2016 12:27 pm

Believe Arden is a GREAT pick up. Her profile reveals her achievements. Emma Smith is a walk-on and she is delivering on the court; best players play. It is better to have talent than wishing you had….

  16. hollycow November 19, 2016 4:18 pm

Wonder what the girls are up to in their after the match act. Nikki mentioned that the fans are in for a surprise. I’ll be in the front row with my white shirt to check it out.

  17. tongo November 19, 2016 4:37 pm

Am so looking forward to the match and the senior celebration.

Was hoping UCSB would have come over at full strength but without Chanel Hoffman, it does not look good for the Gauchos. The match ups with 6’3″ MH Senior Phoebe Grunt and 6’2″ OH Lindsey Ruddins will make it fun. Also, there is the libero match up between Kahakai and Emilia Petrachi.

  18. Ron November 19, 2016 4:51 pm

I am so jealous hollycow, it was my favorite night of the season watching so many outstanding women move on. It gives us hope for the future seeing the kids born at the end of 20th century now ready to go out and improve the world.

    11. Pestolesi will be back before selection sunday
