Since I’ve planned to visit my family around the time of the CalPoly and UCSB matches, I’ve been paying attention to the seat vacancies during the television coverage of prior matches. Based on the much lower availability of seats via eTicketHawaii, the vast majority of those empty seats appears to be held by season ticket holders. However, since there is no resale availability on UH Ticket Marketplace and craigslist currently, can anyone suggest where else I might be able to get a ticket from a season ticket holder? Thank you.

21. Thanks for putting those up. Also available at bigwest.org if you don’t want to do the tedious stuff through the AVCA site.
The Big West also breaks it down by conference-only matches. UCI’s still impressive despite going 0-2 against two of the top teams in CSUN and The Beach. They could have easily won that match with the Matadors, up 2-0 then serving for the match at 14=13. lost it 16-14.

Agree that those Irvine stats are impressive, but looking at their schedule may provide a clue as to why the team is so impressive on paper. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they will provide a good test for the Wahine, but losing to Utah St, Xavier, Cincinnati, and New Mexico isn’t the greatest of résumés. I don’t envy the UCI conference schedule opening week+… Playing LBSU, CSUN, UH right off the bat is rough!

Decided to look at national stats, and unsurprisingly (if there’s such an adverb) Big West teams and Big West individuals barely appear in the Top 50.

The 2014 version of Team Shoji — unlike most versions — features height and power serves. Are these characteristics reflected in the Top 50 stats? See for yourself.

Based on current national stats. it appears that UC Irvine (surprise! surprise!) more than any other Big West school poses the greatest threat to the Bows.

I believe that their Junior year, Carey was the right side hitter. They needed her on the court for the intangibles that she brought.

For their Senior year, I remember reading that Carey specifically told Shoji she was going to set.

18. Cindy, I didn’t mean you. Some fans still refer to that as a 6-2, since that was the only time two setters were used on an equal basis. Regarding the 2002 season, I don’t remember exactly if there was a time both Carey and Vakasausau were on the court, but if both were it was either Carey was a hitter or if she was the setter, Vakasausau was a DS. But for most of the season, that was the rotation that Shoji settled in – Vakasausau/Carey sharing one spot and Tano/Ilustre splitting time at opposite.

There have been times when two setters were on the court but obviously not both were playing the same role, otherwise it would just create confusion. Thurlby started a few matches at opposite in 2005, so of course she was on the court at the same time as Kamana’o. Before and after that season, they also shared the court with Thurlby as DS. Same thing with Brandt/Mafua.

I was referring to the actual setting duties. And the 2002 season, with the aforementioned Carey/Vakasausau combo.
