it’s the option that allows for continuity in the program. Enough change with Shoji sidelined.
8. Taylor’s plan was always to graduate first while looking at options this spring. injury or not.
There is really good money in the sport. and usually perks such as car and house. and usually teams restricted to two foreign players.

BTW, indoor team began morning workouts Tuesday 6:30 a.m.

Yeah, the K League is a good training ground with a good pay check – but living in Korea can be culturally tough. It is a weak pro league trying to upgrade. In years past, they brought in foreign players like Nicole Fawcett who totally dominated the local K pros in physicality, size and skills. K League had since limit the “quality” of these foreign players using age and years out of college restrictions insuring that the recruits are good but relatively inexperience. IMO, it has been a win win situation. Hartong sat in Switzerland but in the K League, Emily is a star. It is like playing in the “minor league” but expect Emily to get back to the majors soon.

from what i understand, the PR league is also really convenient for outgoing US college players, b/c their season starts right after the college season ends. easy transition.

most of the other overseas pro leagues in europe, asia, brazil are smack in the middle of their pro seasons. so it may be tougher to transfer in … unless you were just an outstanding college player with tons of accolades whom a pro team wants to scoop up. note too that many of these pro leagues may have limits on the number of “foreign” players allowed on their rosters, again making roster moves tough.

$150k for first timer, $150k to $180k for renewal (Hartong renewed for this season) before bonuses. Interesting age limit, and limit on renewals. A very good wage indeed.

I don’t have the stats on where most players with completed eligibility first go to play professionally, although Kanani Danielson went to Japan, Emily Hartong went to Switzerland before South Korea, and others per the VT threads seem to be going to Europe (you can search for Americans overseas or players overseas to get the appropriate threads on VT). I’m sure factors such as geographic preference, relationships between clubs and college coaches, success in team tryouts, etc. play roles in where a player ends up for their first professional contract.

Doesn’t answer your question directly but helps give a view as to where players are playing overseas. Given the number, unlikely most are first going to PR and then going elsewhere, and it is interesting that no one has transferred to a PR team in that list. Transferring from team to team/country to country is very common. I believe Hartong stayed with her South Korean team largely because they won the championship last year. All the other teams replaced their foreign players via tryout in CA last year. I read that Emily earns around $170K, plus has a translator and one or two trips per year to US included in her contract. So it is understandable if teams want a different, high-cost employee, if they don’t win a championship.
