Was told yesterday the schedule is done but it had to be approved by the admin. should know more soon.

also, it looks like there’s room in the schedule for maybe 3 more matches, beyond what was listed above in the OP (9 non-conference matches, plus 16 conference matches, equals 25 matches, leaving 3 more play-dates). i’d like to see the coaches try to maximize the value out of the remaining openings in the schedule, if possible.

Some of it will depend on how the conferences are ranked. UH plays three Pac-12 teams in UCLA, ASU and Oregon.
One thing that continually is forgotten …. since we have this discussion every year … just because Hawaii wants to play a team doesn’t mean that team will come out. The schedule is the best they can get and can afford.
The final schedule should be announced soon. Some of the delay was due to football scheduling.

even if hawaii goes undefeated this year (which is tough, given how young they’ll be), their RPI will have to be probably firmly in the top 10 or 12. otherwise, if their schedule doesn’t produce any opponents any opponents in the top 25 RPI, it would be awfully easy for the committee to downgrade hawaii, for seeding purposes.

That would give them a better chance.

many of the next season’s non-conference teams will be a solid top 50 RPI team, and nearly all of them will be in the top 100. that bodes well. but none of them finished in the top 25 of the RPI (although Oregon finished #25 in the RPI released just before the tournament), and on first glance, nearly all of those teams will be hard-pressed to be a top 25 RPI team this season. hawaii could end up with a decent RPI, but if they don’t face any top 25 RPI opponents, they will be bypassed for a seed.
