finally this post gets in

the highlights of the match: (note na wahine should always win the opening set)

sarah mendoza was faster than i expected and quite supported by kahakai and long who shielded, dug and passed for na wahine. long was also more tactical and killed where it counts. (you check her high velocity gun?)

higgins provided armor and had the most blocks (on paper) despite a somewhat lackluster setting. and even still magill and adolpho got in plenty kills (and blocks). greeley contributed too.

finally of course, the TIGER of na wahine. broken elbow? what broken elbow? (though i still implore her to use her other arm as necessary) nikki taylor her power was terrifying including at the service line with 3 aces/no service errors. her gun easily tore through the gauchos defense. it was taylor made!

kahakai coming back helped to stabilize the passing. she’s a welcome return. on friday night it was often kahakai, mendoza and greeley in the serve receive, freeing olevao more to focus on offense.

last night, when greeley struggled to pass (as ucsb serving was keying on her), kahakai subbing in for greeley in set 3 was a good adjustment. it also helped that long provided some steady passing too.

Down to #30 on RPI…no guarantees with at-large berths even well above 64, thanks to all the manini conference champions automatic bids (just like basketball). Was happy for Ginger, as she somewhat kept the UCSB block honest with 7 kills and played well in the backrow. Should the Wahine win out vs. Irvine and CSF this week, next weekend’s matches will be the biggest conference homestand in many years.

They are a no top anything team right now and it will be be a long haul back unless they take on the top dogs in the next preseason and beat them.

Playing in one tournament on the road with some good teams could help also

Agree with you. passing much better. Setting was off. Hard to say if they’re a Top 20 team. Mendoza and Kahakai were very good. Long played a key role, mostly on defense.

Over all good night for the Wahine. The real Nikki showed what she could do for the first time this year. Passing was better but setting has not improved enough for us to be a top twenty team. Mendoza also had her best match.
