Defense will carry them until the offense comes around. In particular, the backcourt, which was a tower of strength for the Wahine in the last tourney.

– Blocking numbers should improve with the switch to Castillo, who closes the block faster.

– Emma Smith impressed with her back row play, and along with an improving Savannah Kahakai, provided much better passing in the last game. Even the digging was close to on point.

– Greeley seems more agile and really laid out on the floor to get digs.

The shorter lineup up front (Ross and Granato) means the back row will have to cover more area but they were up to the task against Arizona.

Rather than risk re-injuring the elbow, I think it would be prudent to keep her out this week.

Not exactly sure what you mean–everyone available other than Okino and redshirting Ma’afala has played, including 9 players that have played at least 10 out of a possible 13 sets. Also, there is too little public info on the injuries to panic. The coaches are doing the best they can with the available players.

Now if you are suggesting the one or more of the three players redshirt this year, that’s a different issue, and I’ll leave it up to each player to make that determination.

They may come back but not at 100%.

She is our top middle. I don’t get the logic.

She won’t be going all six rotations, is being held out of blocking reps.

5. Higgins was the odd-man out so to speak for the serving rotation. Just the way it worked out. As is the situation with Croson. Manu-Olevao would have be a senior this year had she not had to burn her red-shirt season but think it’s time to move on.

I also feel badly that Tai had to burn her redshirt that year because of her. If not, Tai would be on the team this year.
I think McKenna Granato was awesome. Norene’s passes seem faster and higher which allows our hitters to hit down rather than up (if they jump at the right time). I was surprised that Higgins did not come in to at least serve.
Hope the team is on an upswing. I am looking forward to the season.
