Buscher in, Hackman out, Standhardinger spars

By Brian McInnis on May 29, 2014

Hawaii seems intent on keeping its corps of walk-ons well-stocked heading into the 2014-15 season, while upping its local flair at the same time. ‘Iolani shooting guard Zach Buscher said he’s agreed to join UH in the fall as a walk-on, which will mark the first time under Gib Arnold that there will be two local players on the Rainbow Warriors’ roster (Dyrbe Enos is the other). Correction: It will be the first time under Arnold to begin a season. […]

MASH unit

By Brian McInnis on October 24, 2013

A confluence of circumstances left the Hawaii basketball team more shorthanded than usual on Wednesday. In addition to existing injuries to center Caleb Dressler and point guard Niko Filipovich, UH was without lead guard Keith Shamburger, shooting guard Jack Hackman and wing Negus Webster-Chan. A team manager was also out of commission. Shamburger and Hackman (and the manager) were out with illnesses. Webster-Chan took a shot to the eye earlier this week. Dressler still seems a long ways off from […]

Green & White rewind

By Brian McInnis on October 22, 2013

Hawaii basketball’s Green & White Scrimmage experiment on Saturday wasn’t perfect (it could have used game jerseys that were, you know, green and white), but it was a fair platform to introduce the 2013-14 Rainbow Warriors without any set national date for Midnight Madness events this year. There was more actual basketball action than you could ask for in previous iterations of the Ohana Hoopfest/Twilight Ohana/Midnight Ohana. The crowd of about 1,000 was also respectable, and the team and coaches […]

UH hoops practice preview

By Brian McInnis on September 24, 2013

Practice? Y’all want to talk about practice? Already? Believe it or not (I can’t), it’s that time again, ladies and gents. The Hawaii men’s basketball team starts up full practices for the 2013-14 season on Friday — a good two and a half weeks ahead of the traditional start to practices of past seasons around Oct. 15. The NCAA bumped up the time coaches get to spend with their players before the season, giving them 30 days of full practices […]

Now you know Jack

By Brian McInnis on August 2, 2013

If you’ve got a second to divert your attention away from the offensive coordinator situation with the UH football team, here’s some basketball news for you: Jack Hackman is confirmed as the latest addition for Hawaii. The 6-foot-5, 185-pound swingman, a 2012 graduate of perennial Oregon 6A champ Jesuit High in Portland, will be a preferred walk-on freshman with the Rainbow Warriors for the 2013-14 season and expects to arrive later this month. “I’m really excited about the opportunity. I […]

New names // CSL Thursday

By Brian McInnis on August 1, 2013

Over the last two days, two new names have surfaced to join the Rainbow Warriors — one for the coming season and another (possibly) for 2014-15. Jack Hackman of Jesuit High (Ore.) and the Elite 24 AAU team tweeted an announcement of his pending arrival for 2013-14 and Daquan Phillips of  Bishop McDevitt High (Pa.) did something similar for 2014-15 in conjunction with retweeted congratulations from UH fans. I haven’t received confirmation of their arrival on the UH side of things […]
