The University of Hawaii’s official response to the NCAA’s notice of allegations was filed and made public on Friday.
Former coach Gib Arnold, meanwhile, hasn’t yet made any public comments detailing his official response, although his attorney James Bickerton has indicated that the overriding theme will be contesting just about all aspects of UH’s version of events.
Aaron Valdes claimed Gib Arnold’s 2014 “King of the Beach” preseason conditioning title on Saturday morning at Queen’s Beach, outdoing runner-up Sammis Reyes and third-place Garrett Nevels.
Four games packed into in one day on Saturday meant that the four lowest seeds in the six-team league were required to win twice in a few hours if they were to survive and advance to next Saturday’s championship game.
The most interesting aspect of Thursday’s games at the College Summer League, besides another strong effort from Michael Thomas, was a matchup of two of the best big men in the league.
If anyone was hoping for a concentrated dose of projected Hawaii walk-ons Tyler Harville or Zach Buscher on Saturday, they had to walk out of the Manoa Valley District Park gym with some disappointment. In the first of two College Summer League semifinals at Maryknoll, Julian Sensley uncorked a vintage 33-point performance to lead Wealth Strategy Partners over defending champion Solar Universe, 94-86. The College Summer League playoffs are this week, but the “game of the year” in this setting may have just happened over the weekend. Sparked by Bill Amis‘ halftime appearance (he thought the game was at 7:30, not 6 p.m.), Central Medical Clinic rallied from 20 points down to defeat Solar Universe 127-122 in overtime and claim the top seed in the playoffs at 7-3.
