Defending national champion Long Beach State was picked to repeat as Big West men’s volleyball champ.

The 49es received all six first-place votes, for 36 points.

Hawaii was at No. 2 (28 points), UC Irvine at 3 (16) followed by UCSB (16), CSUN (11) and UC San Diego (9).

Hawaii will be the host of the 2019 Big West Tournament. The Rainbow Warriors were 19-8 and No. 5 in the final AVCA poll but missed out on an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2018. UH returns a quartet of AVCA All-Americans, including first-teamer senior outside hitter Stijn van Tilburg senior setter, Joe Worsley (second team), junior right side hitter Rado Parapunov (honorable mention) and junior middle blocker Patrick Gasman (honorable mention).

The team’s preseason national ranking is the highest for the program since opening at No. 3 in 2005.

Sorry if this is off subject, but does anyone know why Jolie Rasmussen left Oregon for Hawaii? Oregon seems to be a good reputable program and school, why leave?

I hope you had a nice birthday celebration Cindy!

    GO BOWS!

what happened to isaac liva…did he leave the program?

  9. Cindy Luis December 31, 2018 4:21 pm

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Actually birthday lunch was a day later to accommodate work schedules. Lovely time at Mariposa.
as for Rasmussen … Don’t know the reason. Will ask her in spring ball.
    3. Don’t think Shoji (Dec. 4) has the same problem as we do (one present, merry christmas-happy birthday) but it has led to my ornament addiction.
Do think the men will be fun to watch. will be interesting to see how much the loss of Tuileta affects them.
    8. Yes, Liva is no longer with the team. Sat next to him on the way back from Oregon where the family had gone to support Sarah with the Wahine. He has a decided to retire from volleyball.

Looked up Mariposa, don’t think i ever stepped into Neiman Marcus or maybe did briefly.

Did most you know that Jolie’s parents both played volleyball in college and that her mother is of Japanese descent ?

6 Going school and playing wahine VB is a dream come true for star-transfers like Jolie from mainland school. Only those who had a great time in Hawaii and then forced to leave the paradise to pursue career or for other reasons and then get planted way away from paradise, will realize decades later what a great time they had it in Hawaii. Finance, career and many other factors hamper moving back to Hawaii. Star-Jolie did the right move!

Savich, please have these conversations with yourself…with yourself elsewhere. You really kill it for the rest of us. Please take your rambling nonsense into your own personal journal, diary, or whatever have you. I see your username and posts and it just makes me not even want to come back and visit…not to read, not to post. I usually do not engage with nonsense posters, but you are just plain ridiculous.

This season is a very promising and exciting one for UH fans. Please do not ruin it for the rest of us. Don’t come back unless you have something volleyball related and constructive to contribute. Add it to your New Year’s Resolution. New Year, New Savich.
