Committee said it wasn’t cost of travel. They are flying Harvard to UCLA. I think travel is cheaper HNL to LAX.
as for Irvine’s road wins … they drove to all but three of their matches, basically could have walked across the street to Concordia.
Hawaii should not be penalized for not being able to fly more when they already fly the most of any team in the country. Sorry I’m still upset about this.

I basically agree with what’s been said about ‘victim blaming’ regarding the snub. To make an analogy, it’s like an Asian student which by a solid majority view and objective measurables being snubbed by a college admissions committee for another student. Then scolding the Asian student for ‘making it close’ and accepting that ‘you gotta working twice as hard’. Asians have been praised for being silent on discrimination and just vowing to work 2X as hard. Is this fair? Do Asians just accept this and work themselves academically to death for the same rewards? This is why Harvard is being sued. UH just got told to ‘know your place’ by the powers that be. And come to think of it I don’t think it helped that UCLA is in the same system as UCI either.

Hawaii should be in plain and simple. Even the UCI coaches and players thought they were out for sure. Their post game interview after UH beat them were tearful good-byes to their seniors. They were resigned to the fact that they “knew” they were out and their season was done. There was no talk of being selected as even a remote possibility. Everyone but the three stooges had Hawaii penciled in. Criteria? Yeah right. It was all about the money….which is just wrong.

H-man: no argument about BYU; they won the MPSF tournament. Again, you must know more than the coaches that voted UH higher with the body of work completed, and the RPI system, which factors in home/away- with UH STILL HIGHER. BTW, its not UH’s fault that they alternate home/away 2 games versus 1/1 splits against So. Cal teams.

The committee goofed up. Almost every one who know men’s college volleyball felt the UH vs Irvine match was the elimination match. I bet you even Irvine thought that. It is certainly obvious that the committee picked and chose whatever criterias they felt suit them and placed heavy emphasis on them instead of what was done traditionally..which was RPI, SOS and head to head.

If we allow committee members to do whatever their gut tells them to do, then you will have inconsistency from year to year and that is not good.

I don’t get it how some fans just cannot see when so much went wrong. From the UH snub, to the OSU in the play in game to a 13-13 getting a higher seed.

It is obvious to me this committee was not up to the task.

Yes, UH beat UCI 2 of 3, but UH lost twice to CSUN and lost to BYU, teams that UCI beat twice. The two losses to CSUN were on the road so it was double jeopardy for UH. But if you argue that because UH beat UCI a majority of times they met, then you can say that BYU should not be in the tournament because they lost twice to UCI. I mean the argument can go on and on about who beat whom, but there was a selection criteria and apparently UCI stacked up higher on overall points based on the criteria. Yeah, it seems unfair, but Wade should be familiar with the at-large selection criteria and should have known they were vulnerable if they did not win the outright BWC championship. Those conference road losses really hurt UH’s chances for an at-large bid. There should be no crying in the towel.

UH went 1-2 vs #1 LBSU, UCI 0-2
UH went 1-1 vs. #3 UCLA, UCI 0-2
UH went 2-0 vs. # 12 UCSB, UCI 1-1
UCI lost to #15 Fort Wayne at home, UH has no losses to anytime outside the top 10 (top 9 in fact).

Hawaii and UCI finished tied in the conference standings…
Hawaii meets UCI in the postseason on a neutral court, and wins convincingly in 4 sets (two games in the teens).

RPI thru April 21- Hawaii #4, UCI #6

AVCA coaches must know little and the RPI system must mean little then…
