Plus your second string TE could be used on the scout team improving the defense’s ability to cover a legit TE (UH always sucked at that).

But a big target here and there would cause problems for secondary.

Stovall was good but he wasn’t as physical as say Victor is/will be. Stovall was more of a speed to balance (hard to arm tackle him because of his balance) runner more than someone who was physical. Haasenritter will be someone who might be similar with his balance and will pair unreal with Victor down the line. Different from Byrd and Ursua. They wont shy away from contact. Neither would the TE. Will compliment perfect with Phillips (speed) next season.

I know coach Jones never had one and Stutz/Rolo had no use (but did they really?) for Dakota sending him to the defense but I think to get to the next level Rolo/Stutz needs a TE going forward.

Ideally someone 6’4″ to 6’7″ between 245 to 270 with good hands, good mobility, large catch radius, decent speed (no need to be too fast, just kind of quick though) enough to run choice routes (like Sarsh does), ability to block using hand/arm length (not as much with physicality). but the power to catch (and YAC) with physicality so to alter coverage packages defensively allowing other WR’s isolated coverage.

This TE can also be used as an H back in a wildcat package with Victor as the “QB”. Victor’s ability to throw would keep the defense off balance should Rolo/Stutz use the Wildcat package. A target with a large catch radius would be an easier target to throw to while throwing on the run. Plus this TE could protect/block the edge rushers, that’s where most of the tackles (OLB) occur from vs wildcat.

This TE could also be used as a slot (Flex TE I think is what they call them in “Air Raid offenses) in red zone, short yardage, “jumbo”, or even standard (every down) packages. Against Boise and BYU (last year) you could see fear as guys like Byrd, Smart, Sarsh, and even (especially; alligator arm game) Ursua. This TE will cause the defense to “alligator” arm tackle.

This TE can also be used on the Punt return unit. We seen how (senior) Jeff Keene is a valuable member of this unit. Having someone much taller fill the same role (Keene is a special teams specialist) may cause disruption. FG blocking unit as well (disruption). Also as an up man on the hands team with large catch radius and the physicality to catch with contact (Dakota had a big catch on hands team last season).Plus as outside blocker on FG unit (he may prevent a kick 6 like at Fresno last year)

Get one JC for 2020 then one moldable (good framed kid that you could put weight on or turn into a Mardner type wideout) high schooler 2021. Next level vision. I hope they will consider a TE.

FS wil put 6-7 guys in the box and sometimes bring em all. Run game Rivers et al. We will have to come out fast on both sides. They will challenge receivers at LOS and sometimes play soft. This game is winnable for many reasons. CRISP, disciplined, dedicated to gettin stops on D is KEY!

Head coach Nick Rolovich confirmed that senior Kohl Levao will redshirt this season, extending his UH career through the 2020 season.

“That’s the plan going forward,” Rolovich said. “Plans can always change if necessity peeks its head out.”
