A little too inconsistent. Part of that is not getting enough touches down low. Also seemed like he only had 1 true post move. Makes me wonder if these coaches are working intensely enough with these big men..Hopefully Da Silva Hulland & Colina improve this offseason

Chris Gerlufsen probably push Ganot into going after more athletic kids instead of finding a bunch of role players and tried to fit them into a role.

Last year’s recruiting class of Webster, Madut and DaSilva and this years class of McClanahan, Ayol, and Bayles so far is an indication of the team trying to be more athletic.

Having better athletes allow for the team not have to rely on running sets to perfection in order to score and allow for individual players to create on their own if the play breaks down. It’s also more entertaining and could increase attendance.

Ganot is still going to have to work harder to make sure this bunch play as a team and not free lance too much. It may be easier to coach a bunch of role players so all the coaches is going to have their work cut out for them since a lot of kids on the team feel they deserve to play more.

Other than Buggs (who may in fact decide to stay) the players who have decided to transfer weren’t going to play a large role going forward. Villa was promising but I think being away from basketball for the past 2 years put him behind with his development and probably would’ve been another year or two until he’s at a point where he can really contribute, and Ganot is bringing in more point guards in this class. And carper…he has a D1 size but isn’t athletically gifted, was exposed consistently against pretty mediocre bigs, and just seemed lost when given extended minutes. Ganot should lean more towards athletic and versatile bigs like da Silva and hopefully a healthy Owen hulland. Carper didn’t rebound and defend Good enough especially for his size. I think Ganot has enough at the 5 position with the bigs he has now especially if hulland can stay healthy and then with that 6’7 kid coming in who can play stretch 4 in his offense. All in all I wish all the players the best no matter where they decide to continue their career and UH will be fine next year especially if Avea continues his improvement and Webster makes a jump, gives consistent scoring, and the incoming class can provide an immediate impact

The times the players that have transferred from Ganot’s group have either done better, average or WORSE in different schools than Hawaii. Here’s a list to name a few (Including those from the 2015-16 season).

Isaac Fleming – ECU
2016-17 : 15-18
2017-18 : 10-20
2018-19 : 10-21

Stefan Jovanovic – Loyola Marymount
2016-17 : 15-15

Matthew Owies – SeattleU
2017-18 : 20-14

Larry Lewis Jr. – HPU
2017-18 : 15-13

Brian Garrett – Cal State University Monterey Bay
2017-18: 10-18

Leland Green – Humboldt State University
2019-20 : 9-18

Brandon Thomas – Stanislaus State
2019-20 : 15-13

The trend just hasn’t cut out with those that transferred, and it could end up getting worse from here. Only Matthew Owies’ team had a good season despite sitting out via the redshirt rule. LLJ, Jovanovic and Brandon Thomas had average seasons, with the rest doing worse. At this point, the MBB program better get figure out how to fix this because the fans will grow restless about the programs’ regression as a whole, and especially if we can’t be competitive again.

We are as mediocre as we’ve been for a long time. Remember the last regime started to bring us up to a level we want to be in until instead of fixing a problem we quickly punish ourselves. June Jones and Gib A. we’re doing a good job so we get rid of Gib and tell JJ twice he is not wanted here. This is why we can’t get better. Shame on the people in charge including our Ad.
