Angel Gaskin, however, is playing beach this season.
They are still looking for a setter.
8. These players are contacting Hawaii, not the other way around.

Back-row army skills: #1) digging bullets, #2) pancake digs for tips, #3) deep baseline digs off high roof, #4) quick legs covering digging coat, #5) accurate passing…What else? Both Akino and Gong were good defensive soldiers. In addition to these skills, Gong brought good service spells while Akino did very well in skill #2 & #5. Look forward to Akino-Gong-Kyra defensive SQUAD excels in guarding wahine SEASON-2019 to reach top-16. [ P.S. Hope not to hear the last season excuse, “we lost because our starting player was injured”].

I notice most big programs have taller liberos. Of course they still need to be quick and fearless. I think Hanawahine is a good get. Now she can battle it out with Gong and Okino. I definitely would not count out Gong as Libero next season.

In the past regime, we may have had to wait a couple years for former prep outside hitters to get up to speed as DI liberos. Akiu, Hanawahine come from “good stock.” They’ve grown up playing club and prep ball trained to play relentless defense and with excellent passing technique. Wherever Hanawahine fell on the Oregon depth chart, she was still apart of arguably one of the deepest defensive units in the country. Based on what I have seen of these players in the past, I would say that Hanawahine would fall somewhere slightly below Akiu and above Okino.

Just filling gaps without hurting recruiting for future. She has 5 freshmen, 1 soph, 2 juniors, 2 seniors on scholarships. Needs a backup setter. Probably looking for a setter to fill backup. Has a setter and libero coming in 2020. I think she’s doing a great job building for the future
