    Thanks for the TV info.
Was Maglio somewhat of a project in her first year at UH ? If so, a few projects can turn out to be valuable.

  2. Cubicle No More ... December 14, 2017 9:46 am

Didn’t get a chance on the prior threads … Congrats to Maglio!

  3. Ron December 14, 2017 10:04 am

Emily epitomizes what coming to Hawaii can do for a volleyball player. Through her inner toughness, peer support and great coaching she became among the best of the best. Thanks to you for all the years of joy you have provided for us fans.

  4. Kahuna December 14, 2017 10:55 am

#1 Would you stop harping on that “project” statement Robyn made. It was just a way to say everybody she get from now on has a chance to compete from playing time. A way to tell fans that she will try her darnedest to find top notch players. Of course some will be projects but she is not going to separate the projects from the blue chippers. Some blue chippers never pan out while some projects blossom quickly.

  5. vballfan December 14, 2017 10:56 am

    Great honor for Emily!!!
On another note, can someone please tell me if it’s just me who simply cannot find replays of Wahine volleyball games on TV? For this past season, I know games were replayed later in the evening on game day and first thing the next morning. In addition, highlights were run for a short time after a game. Not to take anything away from the men’s team, but last season’s men’s games seem to be generously replayed along with high school games… but, no Wahine games?? Odd.

  6. Warriorfan December 14, 2017 11:23 am

Emily was never a project she was one of the top players from canada and showed great potential as a freshmen and would have started right away as a freshman if UH didn’t have senior Kalei Adolpho and all american Olivia Magill ahead of her, u knew she would be good.

  7. rabbit ears December 14, 2017 12:04 pm

Did Shoji try and recruit Adora Anae. He said he didn’t want Emily at the beginning and Scott Wong had to convince him.

  8. H-Man December 14, 2017 12:36 pm

Kahuku to Utah is almost a given for athletes from the North Shore. There’s a strong connection with families, so no surprise Adora Anae went to Utah. Just glad we got Nikki Taylor because Nebraska made a strong push to recruit her. Get some, lose some. Anyway, got my chores done and now waiting for the semis this afternoon.

  9. islandman December 14, 2017 1:06 pm

    4. No harping.
“We’re not looking for projects,” Ah Mow-Santos said. “We want players who can contribute from the get-go. Our recruiting for 2019 and 2020 is also looking for that.
“I think we need everything for next year.” ….(Dec. 3, 2017 article)
    —————————————————————————————–
    7. Dave said on one of the post-game shows, he didn’t think Emily was that good, even when she started practicing at the beginning. He was glad Scott recruited her, after awhile.

  10. tako December 14, 2017 1:33 pm

Emily Mags reminds me of another Emily, both ended up as excellent players and representatives of our program. Wish we had the patent of more of the same type of future recruits, humble, hard working and durable. -Hana Hou

Best Wishes in the future for Mags!

Small surprise, Nebraska won the first set against Penn State with strong serving. It will be interesting to see how Penn State responds.

  12. roofer68 December 14, 2017 2:35 pm

Congratulations Em !!! These last 4 years sure went by fast. Wishing you all of the great success in your volley goals and life beyond. Malamapono.

  13. Warriorfan December 14, 2017 3:53 pm

First semi volleyball isn’t that high of a level lots of service errors and hitting errors very sloppy, hope the second semi is more clean volleyball.

  14. Big Island volleyball fan December 14, 2017 4:34 pm

Even though the match is sloppy, it’s nonetheless so exciting! Nebraska managed to lose the match on a rare Penn State error. It’s now going to the fifth set, probably to the chagrin of Florida and Stanford. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see the second semi-final.

  15. Big Island volleyball fan December 14, 2017 4:58 pm

I was wrong about Stanford facing Penn State at the finals. So Penn State is out. I won’t hazard any more predictions. Now I wonder if Russ Rose will retire or strive for one more national championship victory before retiring like John Dunn.

  16. Cindy Luis December 14, 2017 6:48 pm

    15. thought it was a great match and felt that Nebraska would pull it out. Huskers have now won the last 7 against the Nittany Lions.
    BTW it’s Dunning.
Who knows about Rose. no reason for him to retire.
    http://www.ncaa.com/game/volleyball-women/d1/2017/12/14/stanford-florida
surprised about Florida up 2-0 on Stanford tho.
    25-22, 25-21.

  17. Lori December 14, 2017 6:55 pm

The sad thing about Cook or Rose is they show no emotion when they win or lose. When dave or Robyn win or lose, their face expressions change a lot and I remember dave jumping up and down no matter what age he was when they win a big game. Maybe Cook or Rose win so much and so often that to them, I am sure it is great but probably ho hum. Just a thought!

  18. Kazu December 14, 2017 7:18 pm

Glad Nebraska won the battle of two power house. Two heavy wts going up against each other, was a fun match. Now pulling for Stanford, however if Florida some how pulls it off and plays in the final i have to go for Florida only because they haven’t won a national championship yet and i think Coach Wise deserve to get one.

  19. Cindy Luis December 14, 2017 7:24 pm

    17. they are both very stoic coaches. Rose has a very droll sense of humor. Took me a while to get it.

    18. said to my son today that I thought it would be Nebraska-Stanford. we’ll see if Cardinal pull it out.

  20. Cindy Luis December 14, 2017 7:31 pm

Stanford takes Set 325-18, up 23-17 in Set 4. Looking like it’s going 5.

  21. Cindy Luis December 14, 2017 7:36 pm

    Stanford takes Set 4 25-18.

  22. turfwar December 14, 2017 7:54 pm

Carli Snyder is the best player in college volleyball in my book.

  23. Cindy Luis December 14, 2017 7:55 pm

    Florida wins Set 5, 15-10

  24. ManoaFan December 14, 2017 8:00 pm

I hope Florida wins. Mary Wise finally deserves one.
If I were a volleyball player, I would love to play for her. She has shown to be such a great sport and speaks well and knows how to coach. Yea, she has yet to win, but deserves it.

  25. Big Island volleyball fan December 14, 2017 8:18 pm

I was wrong on both accounts having agreed with a previous blogger. So both Stanford and Penn State are out and Florida and Nebraska will duke it out. I know most wish for Florida to win a national championship since they’ve never done it before. Also, Florida is higher ranked. Nebraska is a real digging machine there. It could go to five sets again, but then maybe three close sets as well.

  26. islandman December 14, 2017 8:20 pm

Stanford and Nebraska won enough already. Time for Florida and the first woman to coach a champion.

  27. warriorwahine December 14, 2017 8:55 pm

    i missed the previous thread.

congratulations to emily MAG-num who is MAGsnificent!

  28. warriorwahine December 14, 2017 9:03 pm

as for semis – too bad. penn st was obviously stronger but too many errors including being aced.

and stanford? welp that big ridiculous tree has been chopped or shall i say chomped down again. they were just chillin, down 2-0, finally woke up and then went to sleep again. florida wanted it and you can see joseph raising her fist for the hustle and alhassan bringing said hustle.

as for them hoping to take the championship off nebrasaka? depends on how wise mary wise is.

  29. Ron December 14, 2017 9:07 pm

Good to see your comments Roofer.. I will never forget our conversation with Emily when Dave came by and said we knew more about her than he did. I miss seeing you and hearing your insightful comments at the games but I have adjusted to life on Maui. Aloha

  30. Bleachercoach December 14, 2017 9:46 pm

25….yes I was WRONG on my selection on Penn St vs Stanford. I guess you still have to play the game and what team will show up. There are so many factors especially in a Final 4 setting. Lets see if I can get this one right. I think Nebraska will be the National Champions but I would like to see Mary Wise win one!

  31. Rabbit ears December 14, 2017 10:06 pm

is there going to be some kind of presentation for the All Americans at the final 4?

  32. noblesol December 15, 2017 2:40 am

My pick is Nebraska for the win. They’ll have the crowd, and they’ll show up expecting to have to fight for it. Cook may not show a lot of emotions, but that’s a midwest thing. His staff and players are intensely competitive. Nebraska loves the game and being in a great match. It will be fun to see them out here again in March for BVB.

  33. H-Man December 15, 2017 6:21 am

I am happy Nebraska won; sad that Stanford lost because they represent West Coast volleyball. So it’s east versus mid west. I’ll go with the Huskers.

  34. cappie the dog December 15, 2017 1:54 pm

Nothing makes me happier than seeing Penn State lose in any sport. If there are any former alumnae on this board, I profusely apologize.

    Sports shouldn’t be a cult.
