new thread up on Cia Goods.
20. No, selection committee not always from big schools.
Every conference gets an automatic bid in women’s volleyball in the NCAA, just like men’s and women’s basketball.

Those committee members who select the teams, aren’t they almost always from the big schools?

I like what the NIT Basketball Tournament does.

Every conference leader gets an automatic bid.

Instead of Hawaii playing K-State (RPI 60) and losing twice, Wahine would have had matches with UCLA (RPI 23) and Gonzaga (167). What would have helped is if Pitt (RPI 8) and Utah (RPI 38) hadn’t pulled out of the tournament, leaving them with Coastal Carolina twice (RPI 115).
But these teams’ RPI likely would be lower having played Hawaii.

One key play … and the reason that the CRS (Challenge Review System) should be mandatory … came in Set 4. Akiu’s ace gave Hawaii the 12-11 lead. Kirst’s attack initially ruled a kill which would have tied it at 12. Ah Mow-Santos won the challenge, attack ruled long, made it 13-11. Beach called for a lift and it’s 14-11. Then 15-11 on a kill by Iosia.

Cindy, I don’t have a problem with Tiff speaking fast; he has to to keep up with the action and do it in a very descriptive way. It’s just amazing to me how good he is at keeping up with all the action and being informative on other things at the same time. Interesting about Emily Fitzner… Much mahalos for all the updates!

Glad the team was able to wrap up this match. It was interesting that Gimmillaro was able to pinpoint the moments at which whoever established a lead would ride it to victory.

Also interesting that he keeps bringing up the hurricane as an external factor the NCAA selection committee should be considering as a one-off regarding Hawaii’s RPI this season. Not sure how that might translate, but it’s nice that he is going on record about it.

Personally don’t think high school accolades automatically translate to greatness in college.
UCSB only had one player

It will be interesting to learn who will commit to Hawaii next year. Well, maybe by 2020 Hawaii could regain its Big West title when these new girls get a year’s collegiate experience under their belts and the last of the van Winden sisters, the better player graduates.

Will mention it to Tiff about speaking quickly. I think he’s really good. But I am biased (as his mother).
Expected to sign Wednesday is Riley Wagoner OH from Dublin, Ohio. Named to the second team of American Volleyball Coaches Association’s 13th annual Under Armour Girls High School All-America Teams.
You’ll notice Emily Fitzner, S, Torrey Pines has a blank next to College commit. She was headed to USC but not sure what happened. She is the daughter of former Wahine Cheri Boyer.
Hawaii is expected to sign at least 5. Have mentioned earlier that Wahine will be good next year but they will be young.
Here’s the complete team

Tried to stream ESPN3 but it was so herky jerky that it was more fun listening to Tiff Wells. I’ve gotten more used to knowing what he’s going to say by his pausing and timing. I love when he mentions the opponents name then he shouts “B – L – O – C – K – E – D!!! You shall not pass!” He speaks so fast but I can still understand what he says.

Who was it that he mentioned was going to sign with the Bows that everyone in the country is trying to recruit…or something like that. I heard the tail end of his announcement.

Mahalo nui loa for all you do!

Brian Gimillaro paid positive tribute to Hawaii. He also stated that the NCAA should grant an at-large berth to Hawaii since they missed a few crucial matches due to Hurricane Lane. So overall, he has been gracious to Hawaii except for rubbing in the 1989 loss. So maybe UH has a shot at the NCAA playoffs if they win the rest of their matches. Also, congrats to McKenna Granato for surpassing thousand career kills and being recognized as player of the match.
