new thread up for Wednesday with SandBows signing four.
Agree, Ah Mow is pretty funny.
8. thank you. Brian McInnis took a couple more. He’ll post in conjunction with my Warrior World feature story (online) that I’m trying to finish for later today.
14. I think these seniors weren’t seniors when they started watching Wahine volleyball. These are lifelong fans.
It seems like you’re missing all that UH does with videos on this team. Try going to HTV link on hawaiiathletics.com
as for Rasmussen, giving up on Numbers.
Maverick, that is funny. not sure how many times we can say but I guess not enough
Rasmussen is not cleared to practice.
No redshirt year available.
They can apply for a second medical hardship. Most common has been in case of pregnzncy. Which does not apply to Rasmussen.
but did to Wahine BKB player Kuehu.
Players do have to show academic progress so likely if Rasmussen was granted as second medical hardship she’d be playing as a grad student.

Sheila, other than grabbing the net to prevent landing with her full weight on her ankle, not much WVU’s Briana Lynch could’ve done anything more to protect herself. Assuming you are talking about the play that took Rasmussen out for basically the season. It was a tight back set from Choy and a broad jump by Rasmussen. Very unfortunate.

I am hoping that Jolie does return for this weekend and NCAA’s because this team was extremely entertaining to watch with her. However, that was almost a full season lost. Combined with next season, she could possibly play less in two years than Annie Mitchem. I am not sure that she has any redshirt seasons left, as I feel like she has used both her regular and medical redshirts prior to arriving at Manoa.

Answer to first question is no, you can be a grad student and still be athletically eligible in years 5, 6, 7 etc. See second link in post #12. Second question answer is it depends on a variety of factors. Sometimes it is better to be in school, as when the economy is in a serious recession.

Agree. It’s a drag sitting in the midst of “deadhead” fans. I keep thinking someone someone should do a study on why senior citizens, in particular, are so attracted to the UH volleyball games.
8. Ditto. Something is really missing from UH Athletics marketing dept work: their lack of promoting the team, players, coaches is astounding and whatever they do produce is so hit or miss. There is no steady, consistent “voice” coming from the UH campus RE Wahine volleyball. Each time I see a link, like above with Robyn, I jump to take in the sound bite.

If so, what is the loss of earning potential for one year by delaying entrance into job market? If you disregard enjoying student-life aspect in Hawaii, and consider only the financial aspect, then it is better off to finish up BS degree as fast as possible using the sport scholarship then enter into job market or pursue advanced degree/ or related vocational program…Wonder how a front row player at air protect herself from ankle injury from an opponent sliding underneath the net?…Wish to see some action tomorrow by Sibley, Gong, Tiffany and Akana.

She’s quite funny. I especially like the way she expresses what could be called “affectionate exasperation” with her players’ performances. She’s tough, but funny, and also kind–a great combination for a coach, or for that matter, for anyone.

I was able to find two cases in football in which a player received a 7th year of eligibility:

https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2017/2/10/14575398/ncaa-eligibility-rules-medical-redshirt-hardship-waiver

http://landgrantgauntlet.com/2016/11/01/ncaa-grants-texas-tech-starting-center-a-7th-year/

Not that Jolie, or most other students, wants to be injured this much and stay in college this long.

Thank you, I stand corrected. The NCAA could grant Jolie a sixth year of eligibility for her ankle injury, which must meet hardship waiver rules (occurred before second half of season, participated in no more than 30% of matches, injury is season-ending). If she were to heal up and be medically capable to play in the tournament, I don’t think this would qualify as a season-ending injury, but I’ll let others more familiar with hardship waivers comment. Whether Jolie wants to apply for the waiver, if she is eligible, is another question altogether.

Seen most commonly in football, but Jessica Gysin of USC is an example in women’s volleyball who received a second medical redshirt and sixth year of eligibility:

You do a great job. Thank you. I was wondering is there more to the interviews that we can hear?

No redshirt available, she already used it at Oregon. It’s on her UH bio page btw. I’ll let Cindy respond to your other question, lol.
