new thread up with Warriors opening practice.
8. it’s just coaches’ opinions. Some of them don’t respect Hawaii for whatever reason. Just look at what programs they come from and take it with a grain of salt.
As for Wagoner, some of it was what they decided to do after Rasmussen got hurt. moving Iosia back to a hitter Then playing with Hellvig on right, With Van Sickle back, it moved another OH out. Ended up being Wagoner.
12. no idea what you mean about extending tryouts to high schoolers. Unless it’s a paid camp situation, you can’t do that.
no do I understand the “training part.” That’s what they will do during their allotted time in spring.

I was just watching the UH vs Washington game and I’ve been noticing on this and other games that when they run the X play, someone from the back row, in this case Brooke, is crossing with the middle blocker to make the hit at the middle position, past the 3 meter line. So, at what point is the error charged for crossing the 3 meter line with a back row player? Brooke and Hanna are clearly starting the round in the back row, but step past the 3 meter line when they hit.

Yeah, not sure why Riley was pulled unless for her out shots. It’s funny, early in the season, Ryan was commenting on how “technically correct” her arm swing was. I don’t think she was recruited for making bad swings, lol. She did a lot of things good earlier in the season, just not sure what happened to her. I hope she can find out what she needs to do as she will be an integral part of the team. GO BOWS!!

Riley may have a vision issue. If not then it’s a ball control issue.

RAM would do well to extend tryouts to all volleyball high schoolers. 3 – 4 capable passers are needed (besides the Libero). They would account for the 2 MBs and 2 OHs.

Training on serving would help, since both Norene and Bailey are done.

Training on hitting would also be helpful; especially the roll shot and tip shot.

Hope she didn’t get discouraged this season because of not to much playing time, but its up to her to hit the gym. Got to find a spot for Westerberg also. With so much capable players on the team its a battle for playing time, i guess in a way its good.

Yeah Rasmussen certainly looks like she has the leadership qualities that the other players can look to. She’s vocal, has the ability to take over a game and seems competitive.

I hope Wagoner can improve on her ability to put the ball down. She has great approach and looks good when taking off and swinging away, but either her hits are getting dug or she’s hitting them out (90% of her line shots go out). More importantly, she is the most solid ball control player out of all the outsides, so she needs to be on the court somewhere, especially with Okino gone. Rasmussen is capable of playing six rotations, but isn’t exactly the most stellar passer or digger, and for someone who is listed as a libero both at UH and Oregon, I expected more from Van Sickle in terms of ball control. She shanked a lot of passes. Hellvig really shouldn’t be passing at all. So it’s basically down to Wagoner and a really good Libero to be the primary passers, along with a combo of Van Sickle/Rasmussen.

Not sure I’d call going from unranked at the beginning of the season to #15 at the end of the season as being in held in “low esteem”. I’m sure Jolie will be captain as her drive and enthusiasm on/off the court was evident. GO BOWS!!

Should be a key player who is thirsty to drive to top eight… My pick is Jolie. Hopefully, 2020 is kept transparent, particularly, regarding injury reports, instead limit to strategies of skills (game plan) and/or contest any unjust (2nd Irvine game)… Wahines were held relatively, in low esteem in AVCA coaching poll that reflects the image of program by some AVCA coaches.

All those trick plays won’t mean anything if our first touch doesn’t get the ball to the setter. So our libero/DS has to be spot on for Kate to work her magic. I saw a play, forgot the team we were playing, where the ball went to the setter on the team’s left side. 2 girls took off from the setter’s position, one went middle the other went to the pin. It kind took our girls by surprise since they didn’t get to the one that got set, but I believe the ball was dug on our side. Neat play…

Plain vanilla is fine if you have a bunch of All Americans, not always the case at UH.

When the opponents are taller, quicker, better, it helps to get any edge possible.
