new thread up for Sunday with Saturday results and Thursday’s schedule
IMHO feel Hawaii could have beaten any other team that wasn’t hosting on Friday night and won, such as Penn State. Unfortunate draw to be put at the one site that was most difficult to get to.
7. sorry spent most of yesterday traveling
don’t know how many came back. depended on if they had arranged to take finals ahead of time, needed to come back to get out of dorms.
Many on direct flight out of Chicago.
9. don’t know what you mean. the libero doesn’t always pass the ball. Many times others targeted on serve.
Are you suggesting that Kahakakai, Akiu and Okino weren’t quality most recently? Wade was fortunate that G. Worsley wanted to play with brother otherwise he would have ended up at UCLA.
11. & 20 & 26. Sheila, sorry to call you out this time but you really don’t know what you’re taking about when it comes to medical staff at UH. If you read my story from Friday it might explain the process. Rasmussen wasn’t ready. She has said as much. She wasn’t able to do certain things and didn’t want to risk further injury. Again. no miracle cure. It was a long recovery process. I try not to respond negatively but you really don’t know of which you write.
15. what are you talking about in terms of film breakdown? Depends on how the job descriptions go but at least one assistant coach in charge of film breakdown and scouting. I personally have mentioned the job Kaleo Baxter does for the Wahine. What Josh Walker does for the Warriors. They use a stats program that tracks tendencies in certain situations. There’s a lot of information.
19. Oh puhleez. you folks are zero-ing on something that happens at every press conference. pretty much how teams react at the end of their season.

If you are implying that UH has hired an athletic trainer that isn’t qualified or isn’t looking out for the best interest of the student athlete in his/her work, then by all means, go ahead and bring it up to the regents and people in charge and help them start the process of hiring someone who you think is able and capable to do things as you see fit. You are implying that even though UH has a “highly reputed volleyball program” that they aren’t gonna hire someone capable or the best in their field. No make sense, if you know u got one of the best programs u think UH’s mindset is to hire crappy athletic trainers??? You just mad at the way it played out, get a grip, injuries happen and thats life, deal with it. Honestly your viewpoint actually puts the highly touted program before the student athlete at all costs. It wasn’t a miracle cure that Brought medical clearance in the 1st week of post season, Jollie and trainers were working daily to rehab her ankle since wen it first happened. Message me your contact info and the next time I see Jollie face to face, I’ll explain the situation to her, that you don’t think that Jollie was trying her hardest to get back on the court asap, and that all the hard work she was putting in was actually being held up by the athletic trainers, its a conspiracy. Then you two can confer and she can let u know if its true or not, sound good?

What a joke…Sound like going forward to 2020, UH volleyball program needs clearance of bottleneck rather letting all dedicated hard work goes down the drain…

Took the words right out of my mouth Bleachercoach! It must have been exciting there. Was their much of a Hawaii contigent or did Wisconsin make the bulk of it?
The freshmen should be scarier good next year as sophomores! The juniors-to-be-seniors should also be stronger after having a year experience with the Frosh. We will definitely need another setter.
Would be too cool to get one that could hit and serve like Norene. But, alas, she was one in a million! I also hope they start their spring camp like this past year, sweating and ready to go before Robyn shows up!
Where do you live Bleachercoach?

The 2nd set starting off not as well where Nebraska went up 8-2 but again our girls valiantly battled back to tie them 8-8 and trade blows til losing 25-22. The 3rd set we were really playing out of sync but still managed to lose only 25-18 despite the numerous errors we made. I do not want to go there on what we didn’t do well because everyone there in Madison knew. At the end, the girls believed they could beat them and I still believe they could’ve too. People fail to remember that we are playing the “Cream of the Crop ” recruits and just to play in that same level even though we are outsized speaks volume of our coaching, players hearts and attitudes. To the whole team, ” THANK YOU FOR A MEMORABLE SEASON!” Look out Big Dogs the Rainbows will be back even more tenacious than ever!!! Thank you seniors for your leadership of teaching the culture and for your excellent contributions on and off the court.
Last but not least, BVS (Brooke Van Sickle is the BEST PLAYER POUND FOR POUND, INCH FOR INCH IN THE ENTIRE NATION!)

But, imo, there is no substitute for hard work, working on your skills, and attitude. Why would you let anyone else set limitations for you? Makes no sense letting someone try to take you down saying you are not tall enough. Look at what McKenna Ross accomplished this season. Think she showed that she can play with the best this season. BVS is another who can easily play with the best. So, if being tall is a prerequisite and a necessary reason for some people to conclude you are a great volleyball player, that seems more like a put down than a compliment. Pretty sure good players will know they are good because they hold themselves accountable, work hard and are dedicated to being the best.

I especially enjoyed watching Stanford dismantle Penn St. It was a good day for West Coast volleyball.

Talk about making someone feel used, like seriously. “Oh hey, we know that your injured but if you could do us a favor and hurry up and heal that would be great, regardless if your actually ok medically to play again…. thats just irresponsible. Wen u play this level of competition I can guarantee you that any athlete is chomping at the bit to heal up and get cleared to play. For the trainer, its her/his stinking job to make sure that an athlete is physically ok to get back on the court or field, its un-ethical to do otherwise. sure, u can say its so that the university doesn’t get sued but I think most if not all athletic trainers are looking out for the best interest of the student athletes. I have coached before and have had students get injured, and they think they are completely fine ready to go and play again, they beg and plead w the athletic trainer to let them play but they aren’t ready. As a player, u can trick urself into thinking your physically ready wen you aren’t, some even lie b/c they wanna be back on the filed/court to help their team. Whatever game she did return for, did u know that she was only cleared to return to practice earlier in the week? What happens when an athlete gets put back in when they aren’t ready and re-injured or makes it even more worse b/c they didn’t heal properly or enough and the damage is permanent? What are you gonna say to that situation sheila? Its unfortunate what happened to Jolie and how long it took her to come back. I actually bumped into her right before senior night and asked her if she was gonna play and she said that she was working on it, that she wanted to. She genuinely sounded like she wanted to, and I think she just knew that she wasn’t just ready yet, b/c she’s been through this before. As an athlete for UH I don’t think that any medical group was making money off of her being injured and out so long, THATS REDICULOUS. AND guess what, if she did get a 2nd medical opinion, the fact that she is an athlete of UH, she wouldn’t be allowed to play anyway b/c the athletic trainer FOR UH has to clear her. Unfortunate you actually see this situation the way you do, but let me let u know your totally off base and it’s way out of line. I really hope that u have never coached before or don’t plan on coaching in the future.

IMO, athletes don’t have to wait until 100% recovery, to get back to their sport…She never got a chance to be in few late season regular games so that coaching staff could have got good assessment of her performance (…how much rust to get rid of to be part of current team chemistry). Longer you keep a player as patient, more insurance money to medical group, (or less likely to getting sued by a patient), so particularly, if you are the go-to player and if you feel that you are ready to participate again and it is crucial to be there, then always check with secondary medical opinion. Lesson learned with early exit.

Watching that post-game press conference again. Don’t like how that all looks. Hope NCAA doesn’t factor something like that for WHEN (if?) Wahine host again.

Was UH Press office/PR office with them on the trip? They could have given quick briefs or tips to players and coach before they went out there. 😟
