13. I think the hope is she’ll be back in time for playoffs.
She isn’t cleared to practice but she is involved with things like tossing balls out of the cart during serve-receive.
Some of the second medical hardship would mean a season-ending injury. This one hasn’t been declared one but if she doesn’t return then it might be considered one.

Regarding Jolie and medical redshirt, playing, etc.: Her playing must be, well maybe not must be, but probably is still is a possibility otherwise I would think they/she would just say she’s done for the year. If she becomes cleared/available to play her role may range from as before a 6 rotation player, to part time front and/or part time back. I say back, if her back row skills even if not at 100% happens to provide a better/different/additional option than someone else in that position at any particular given time. I think of how Kalei Greeley was used in the past after her injury.

When the Wahine play LBSU, I think the Wahine need their better back row recievers in when Hailey Harward(DS/L) and /or Yizhi Xue(MB) are serving. Which to me would Brooke and ….
Also see McKenna and Tiffany splitting time up front as the situation warrants.

4. 9. 10. 11. Thanks, Cindy, RE HTV in previous thread. I do watch. But, I think, like myself, there are fans out there who are thirsty for more!

I remember, too, Cindy, that coaches in the past wished for more fans, louder fans.

My feeling about the core fans is along the thinking of 10., above. I didn’t even think of doubting, questioning, or criticizing their loyalty and steadfast support of UH athletics. None of the good points made above about this particular fan base came to mind when I said it is a drag to sit around “dead heads.” That is all I meant: for me, it feels like a drag. Period. Even if I got to sit next to Dave Shoji and he came off as a dead head, it would be a drag!

Obviously, everyone enjoys the games in their own ways.

So, simply, I am with 10.
Maybe, I should at least sit in your section!

10. Hey, no worries, my comment was meant an homage to the old time fans. I wish they were rowdier too, but that’s not their way. Even when Aloha Stadium was rocking with a 50,000 fan sellout, many would sit quietly listening to their radio through an earpiece, eating saimin. But I have to give them credit that in their 70s and 80s, they’re still willing to buy a ticket and get down to The Stan in person, rather than just stay home watch the game on TV for free.

Don’t get me wrong, those people who are senior citizens are the core of the fan base and I appreciate that. Some of them were probably vocal in their younger days. When I purchase my ticket, I hope I’m sitting by loud, rowdy fans because I’m like that, but if not then it’s okay. I just have to temper myself a bit. Just because I say it drives me crazy doesn’t mean I don’t like them, on the contrary I’m just expressing my thoughts of how I wish the crowd in The Stan would be. I don’t think it’s a sign of disrespect on my part.
I do wish more students would come out to the matches to cheer on the Wahine. It was great to see the Wahine basketball team cheering on the Wahine volleyball team at the UCSB match! They were totally into the game, and they were quite vocal!

3 – I agree. These are the same folks in the 80s that packed Klum Gym, who overflowed onto the hillside to watch Derek Tatsuno pitch, and who helped pack Aloha Stadium each Saturday to the tune of 43,000 a night. In other words, they’re the ones who built UH sports into what it is today. As a matter fact, they’re the same ones who built the State of Hawaii into what is today, through post-WWII into statehood. The real question isn’t why so many old people like volleyball – those people have been there for 40 years. The real question is why aren’t there just as many younger fans to take their place as the older ones slowly fade away?
