1.as you mention, losing would have been devastating in many respects, which was my point.
never said anything about bracket placement.

Cindy, I read your article on the initial RPI today. Had UH lost to Riverside (or Fullerton for that matter), its RPI rank would have been in the high 50s instead of 47. While I appreciate how bad a loss against Riverside would be optically, historically, emotionally, etc., mathematically/RPI-wise, it is not the hope-killing low you made it out to be (unless you define much higher or lower as ~10 RPI spots in the 40s/50s range).

Where I would agree on the devastation of the loss is in two situations:
(1) UH fails to earn the AQ and must have its resume evaluated by the committee. A loss to Riverside (or Fullerton) would have been very bad in that situation, and would probably make UH a bubble team. You’d rather the loss come to a Poly, rather than to a bad RPI team.

(2) Placement in the bracket, regardless of whether UH earned the AQ. A Riverside (or Fullerton or CSUN or LBSU or UCSB) loss would not help place UH in a favorable subregional. There are geographic and scheduling considerations that could temper this situation, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
