While it is certainly true that we honor people with strong moral character and crime-free lives, the same could also be said of people who rise above their past sins and over a period of time demonstrably become model members of the community. Such an accomplishment is not only a private matter but is deserving of public notice as well. In particular, the reformation of one’s character can instill hope to others who have likewise violated the community’s standards and serve as a role model to follow for regaining the community’s trust.
