Was June Jones really in the running? Did it come down to money? Can’t see why JJ was not offered the job. Good luck to Rolo, really would like to see him succeed.

Matlin’s choice showed that he is his own person. I was sure that June Jones would be the next coach.

I think Matlin was thinking long term. I also don’t think June Jones likes staying at one program long enough to see the kind of turn around Matlin wants.

However, it would have been nice to see a second turn around with June Jones. But, it is not to be.

It would have been interesting to see Matlin’s reaction if he made a call to Jones previous employer at SMU.

I hope UH Warrior does well under Rolovich. He would have to hit the ground running because their first game for next year is against the Cal Bears in Australia.

Like any AD, Matlin will be judged by how well he moves the athletic program forward, more importantly how well he moves the football program forward. With Matlin, I get the sense he is not going to say something like what Ben Jay said in regards to the finances of the athletic program.

I can’t beleive a lot of (so called) UH die hards are happy with Rolo hire and hoping AD gives him 3-4 years to turn around the program. 4 years with Chow was bad enough now you want 4 more losing or average seasons? Any real football person would hire JJ, who else can take an 0-12 team with average talent, put in a new offense, new staff and beat Oregon State in a bowl game in his 1st year! Thats what UH needs results now not 3-4 years!!!

I don’t think it was a campaign by the SA media that got Chow fired. His 10-36 win-loss record and the rapid decline in fan support at the stadium did him in.

Matlin too will be graded by how well Rolovich does during his tenure as HC at UH.

I just hope they give Rolovich time to build the program. After all, Chow got 3 seasons, 9 games (4th season) to turn the program around.

Now he needs to hire the best assistant coaches to make this team successful. First order of business, make sure the WR’s coach is not a grad assistant this year before becoming an assistant for next year.

Congratulations to Rolo. Looks like all of Hawaii is excited. With the experience he has gained these past years, he comes back to Hawaii better than when he left.

I like Rolo, I loved him as a player. I am not so sure about him as a head coach. He is smart, but does he have enough public relations ability to be a head coach, we will find out. I do not know about his recruiting ability. I do think that the talent JJ had was to recognize talent and to get those players into the right position. For hawaii to be really good we need a coach that uncover and develop talent.

Many fans aren’t impressed with Rolo mainly because he’s a boring interview. He is very smart and will bring back pride to the program.

Dave, Fred, Steve, dont start a campaign in the media to get Rolo fired like how the 3 of you did with Chow. Give Rolo a chance to get it going in the right direction.
