Warriors waste no time preparing for Duquesne

How does that country lyric go? It’s wasting time to waste time? (And if that’s not a country lyric, you’re free to use it.)

The Warriors wasted little time in preparing for Duquesne. The coaches watched videos of at least two Duquesne games on yesterday’s flight home from New York. By last night, they had studied videos of all of Duquesne’s games.

The prep time was so important the Warriors did away with the weekly coaches’ cook-off competition.

The Warriors are scheduled to undergo conditioning drills today, with a full practice scheduled for tomorrow.

Our excellent columnist, “Ferd” Lewis is in Pittsburgh and will provide reports on Duquesne in his stories and tweets.

On senior prom night, my car got hit from behind on the H-!. We still went to the prom, but my date mighta, sorta — wait, checking the statute of limitations — OK, theres a possibility she suffered whiplash. She danced bravely … but stiffly. Alas, that was one of the best (unintentional) robots ever.

How appropriate. Duquesne’s logo/mascot looks like an undertaker.

    Mr.,

Think you nailed it with Dick Tracy. Chester Gould estate and/or Chicago Tribune New York News Syndicate might be gunnin’ for royalties on Duq-nes-kee.

The current statewide guffaws regarding misprounouncing of “Duquesne” reminds me of Gene Hackman’s character in Unforgiven pronounciation of “Duke of Death” as “Duck of Death.”

Hat is reminiscent of the Johnny Walker walker’s hat. More royalty issues: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/74/0d/9e/740d9eeac53c1153ac619493dc5184b0.jpg

Cut blocking !!! Our oline should use
    that technique.

  10. Stephen Tsai September 17, 2018 10:34 am

In volleyball, there’s a move called the step-out attack where the set goes to the pin and the middle slides over and smacks it. It’s effective but it’s akin to bunting to break up a no-hitter. Same thing with linemen cut blocking.

Standing in line at Costco, sometimes i get hit in the back of the foot or leg by someone rolling their cart including the big low one.
I do it to the person in front too sometimes.

Past the Cadets and more importantly their Allies in the striped shirts! Watched the UMas game. They are gonna toss the ball all over Wheel routes, screens crossing patterns. They have according to reports 13 FBS transfers. Anybody who thinks these guys can’t play doesn’t know FB. That being said, if the focus energy and certain things addressed the Warriors will be in the right place. Really want an offensive break out and defensive domination. One thing to keep in mind SJSU lost to Davis and Wofford gave Wyoming all it could handle winning 17-14. Full throttle Warriors you got something to prove from here on in! GoWarriors!!!!

  13. Da Punchbowl Kid September 17, 2018 11:24 am

Yep. Warriors gotta bring it, every down, every series no matter who they play. This team can do that!

It doesn’t matter what odds makers or fan boards say. The game is played on the field, by the Warriors, It’s what each of them has inside which will decide the final score. I take comfort in knowing they have what it takes.

With easy opponents, let’s get some points up and give the back ups some reps. Against not so easy opponents, let’s give them all we have and keep our heads up and keep fighting. That’s all this fan can ask for. I believe.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    LIVE ALOHA/PLAY WARRIORS!!!

Oh. You the one that do that kind.

Once somebody at Costco did that to me. I didn’t even look back and I just took the pain. Heard a “sorry” in my direction. i didn’t look back. Sounded like a guy my age. Local Asian. Let him live with whatever notions they would have of me wigging out while he waita in those long slow lines there.

Anyway. By afternoon I was thinking, “man. This bruise really smarts!” I look down at the back of my foot, the ankle area has about a two or three inch gash, drooling red smile. I walk to go get the Neosporin, Isopropyl alch’, I see the doorway, just drops of blood on the wood flooring.

So be careful with your carts. Thank you.

I don’t think anyone should pencil this Saturday as a win yet. UH has had some close calls with FCS teams. Let’s also not forget that Loss to Portland State back in 2000.

The other day at Costco, i was standing in line with only one item and one nice young lady with 2 young children in her cart pointed to the sign that said the cashier was closed, after her. Then she said i could go ahead of her; at first i said that’s okay, but then she said go ahead, so i put my cart ahead of hers. But the nasty cashier said “Are you with her ? “. I said no. He said “only because i’m closing … “, so i had to bail out and go to another line.

  18. Old School Dave September 17, 2018 1:28 pm

Duquesne has a number of FBS transfers from schools like Penn State, Maryland, Illinois, FAU, Idaho, Boise State, NC State, Pitt, among others. There is even a local boy (D-lineman) from Baldwin HS (Maui) via a Cali JUCO.

Oh. Islandman. I needed to be with you just at that moment. Gonna add this to me “once time-travel becomes a reality, I’m gonna” list, “go back to this koment at the store with islandman so I can speak to management on his behalf.”

Not to berate, of course, but for the proverbial “next time,” always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS speak to management if Cust. service gets just a lit-tle too customer service with you.

Unless you’re being belligerent (and even THEN!)—and you clearly were not—always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS find and speak to management. Cust. Serv. (Or ANY profession) are not being paid to be sassy.

Listen. If you ever met me, you’d lose money if you needed go guess whether I had an inner-teeta just by talking and looking at me on first glance. But lemme tell you when I am wronged/spoken sassy to, that mighty, extension-wearing, foot screaming out of the too tight strap sandal comes OUT!!!!!! You know, DO NOT DESERVE to leave an establishment feeling bad about yourself, thinking YOU did something wrong (well, unless one shoplifts, of course) based on the actions of that establishment’s staff/personnel.

I’ve made my voice heard. And I don’t wanna say what I was offered as a means of apology or compensation by management (and, heck, I have sometimes REFUSED THOSE!).

You want to do this to make sure your fellow Hawaii person maintains aloha. We cannot turn into the mainland.

    Thank you.

  23. suckkabooya September 17, 2018 4:02 pm

I think if Coach Rolovich went no back and isolated McDonald with a LB (when the D puts only 4 in the box) maybe Cole can show his dual ability. He does throw a nice deep ball, not bad mid range, and can fit right windows (so far) short. And he has good feet, real good. We haven’t seen that yet. Hopefully it’s coming.

  24. suckkabooya September 17, 2018 4:09 pm

Considering he trusts the pass protection. Was supposed to be tight windows, not right windows. Sorry.

  29. Idunnonuttin September 17, 2018 11:30 pm

After looking at the last play, my conclusion was either Cole McDonald was too slow to run it into the endzone or just respected their Army’s front line. A mental era. Could it have been respect on his part for the game.

  32. Maddog50 September 18, 2018 2:25 am

Just watched the Nick Rolovich show. If you haven’t seen it please do. Kainoa Leakey put everything perfectly in perspective at the close. Now all the Warriors have to do is get back on track and takes care of the Dukes in a solid fashion. My sons friends still talk about the “super humans” they faced when Eastern Illinois with Tony Romo got demolished by the Warriors. My son was a freshman on that team and did not travel. Nothing personal but I want the Dukes to get throttled!!!! GoWarriors!!!

  33. Maddog50 September 18, 2018 4:20 am

So glad we face a more coventional offense. Don’t want our playbook opened till SJSU. Here’s to the Dukes running into a lot of hazard against the Warriors. I want these guys demolished by third quarter. Coach Rolovich and staff doing an exemplary job with the second youngest team in all of college football! GoWarriors!

New York city is a damn crazy place: pedestrians cross each street whether cars are coming or not with the “no walk” red sign blinking; drivers cut in and out with no regard who is in the lane next to them — double park any where any time with their hazard blinkers on – guess this is legal?
yet, not a single cop around to give tickets!!!

picture this: 5 lane street with supposedly parking legal in each curb lane — then, the double parked cars with hazards lights blinking reducing this street to a single lane — how U figga???

best thing, for me, was eating Junior’s cheese cake twice — told my family this is my last time in NY city!

the 10 hour flight each way is a KILLA!!!!! plus, “hard seats” on Hawaiian Air

  41. Idunnonuttin September 18, 2018 8:23 am

  48. suckkabooya September 18, 2018 9:29 am

As we close book on our games against the Service Academies I would like to make one last comment. Not anything about the play on the field but about their Federal funding.

I understand, they are producing our (America’s) future Military leaders so it’s justified (more power to them). And I know it’s to level the playing field in this more competitive, complex era of the “business” of College Football. But they have risen to such a level of visibility and significance with the funding (Niumatalolo has a nice, nice salary) that the field has “leveled” for everyone, except Hawaii. We need some Federal funding (from the same budget) to level our geographical disadvantage here. We are the only program left with a disadvantage in the whole country, and it’s just geographical.

We need to lobby for some kind of “cost of living adjustment” for air travel. We (Hawaii) were annexed in part (primarily?) for Military purposes and we do (Honolulu Community College) have a program that produces (a rather large amount) DOD employees. We don’t need to ask for much, just the amount to offset the geographical disadvantage. The cost of airfare from Hawaii to California (the nearest point to us on the Continent) maybe. Justifiable? I believe so. Just fit us into that secret budget. Please.

  50. islandman September 18, 2018 10:50 am

    44. Although Army had the ball
a long time, UH had the same number of drives, 9. They scored on 3 and Army on 4 drives.

Cole reapects the game. Great player. Maybe he can practice running. To win..

  52. clyde September 18, 2018 11:58 am

#50: By playing keep away (converting on 3rd and 4th downs), Army ran off 76 plays while UH (poor execution on 3rd and 4th downs) had just 45 total plays. In UH’s three previous games it ran off 73 plays vs. CSU, 70 vs. Navy, and 62 vs. Rice. Therein tells the story.

  53. MasatoshiK September 18, 2018 12:13 pm

Though I wish Hawai`i was able to pull off the upset win, they are still doing WAY better at 3-1 than anyone thought they would be doing. Many “experts” had Hawai`i winning 3 games total for the entire season, now Hawai`i has won 3 games out of 4 and folks are talking Hawai`i Bowl as a possibility. Anyway, I expect that Hawai`i will probably look much better this weekend not having to play a game at 6:00 AM Hawai`i time.

    Prediction: Hawai`i 48, Duquesne 17

  54. Inyoface September 18, 2018 12:17 pm

I wonder if we played Army’s game and ran the ball more with Furuta to bruise up the D-lineman and keep the ball away from them would’ve worked.
