Warrior Beat: Trey time’s a charm

Trey Larsen aced a walk-on tryout more than a year ago, earning a slotback’s spot on the Warriors’2018 spring roster.

But his work in those practices and the offseason program did not result in a spot on last year’s team.

Undaunted, Larsen participated once again in last month’s walk-on tryouts. He initially was not put on the callback list.

But this week, he has rejoined the Warriors — as a cornerback.

The unlikeliest hero — Inoke Funaki — was the third-string quarterback entering the 2008 season. But Funaki was pressed into duty that year, and led the Warriors to a victory over Fresno State — the program’s first road win against a nationally ranked opponent.

Funaki humble as always, attended Tuesday’s practice.

Come support your team in Seattle this Sept 14 vs the UW Huskies.

Join our group of 200+ Hawaii fans on the sidelines in the shade (the visiting team section is in the end zone in the hot sun all day). If you haven’t already; send me an email to: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com

Group tickets will be sold to me in July ahead of single game tickets but I need a count before then.

Also join our group of 300+ fans at UNLV this Nov 16 sitting at the 50 yd line behind our Warrior bench; you can’t beat this road game experience; who knows Rolo might send his players into the stands after this game also! There is also a great tailgate here just before the game at the stadium; host Fuchsia has already made a big deposit to reserve our tailgate space.

    Tom:

hope our group leader will get tickets from you so we sit in the shade — last time we sat in the blazing sun all game!!!

any other surprises in ‘spring ball’?

speed with UH receivers will help — hopefully, they can run rings around the DBs — another year with all 4 receivers in the 1,000 yard camp?

like Coderior’s additional weight — stronger & faster?

did not realize Russell was so heavy last year — at 6’5″ and 285# — stronger & faster — look out offenses!!!

hope #57 on offense will not have so many 5-yard penalties in 2019

Yes A-House he is; so no worry, we don’t want you to be sunburn again.

A-House’s tour group has over 100 fans coming from Hawaii for this game! Let me know if you want to join them; Mr A-House is the most gracious host.

does Larson have blazing speed? If not, IDK. also, baseball has been a big disappointment so far. somebody light a fire under coach’s or just retire already. Tired of this and dat !

Larsen is quick, but not necessarily fast.
