Warrior Beat: Paniolo pride

The Paniolo Trophy. / Photo courtesy UH

The Wyoming football team is set to arrive late Thursday afternoon with 70 players and a prized possession — the Paniolo Trophy.

Like Magnum P.I., this trophy is not the original. The one that was awarded between 1979 and 1997, when both teams were members of the Western Athletic Conference, was misplaced. But, hey, who’s going to notice?

The Warriors have other goals entering Saturday’s Mountain West Conference game. The Warriors are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the MW. They need two victories to qualify for the Dec. 22 Hawaii Bowl.

After six games without a bye, the Warriors are settling into a pro-style routine. They are limiting the heavy hitting, and focusing on technique and conditioning. Today’s practice centered on scheming the Cowboys’ power-game attack.

Aaahhhhh…foot injury? Didn’t look like it on TV. But doesn’t matter. “Foo-Root” got it done when it needed to get done. And after watching the re-broadcast, I would say Cole got it done when it needed to get done. Good job. Kaimana’s performance is no surprise. He showed his ability in fall practice and scrimmages. For the Wyoming game, I predict the Warriors win going away….Warriors 35 Cowboys 14

Saturday. Changed it. (6-1) and one more win to go after Saturday night’s game.

Anyone going to this game on Saturday, October 6, 2018? It starts at 6:00 p.m. Aloha stadium.

I think you can print out a ticket on the internet for only $25 dollars. Yellow section, north endzone. Cheaper, but you won’t see the game. High up.

This Na Koa Lunch report? Is it only for that one lunch meeting ezpenses or do they include all expenses? At the lower campus, Manoa sports complex too. Trophies, locker rooms, paint jobs, etc.

    Go Warriors!!! Corral the Cowpokes!

Last week’s game in San Jose, only 16,363 fans showed up. I guess they had other places to go. Like Knotts Berry Farm, Timber Log Cabin ride. And where 4,014,000 visitors visit this amusement park in Buena, California every year.

  13. Savich October 2, 2018 9:45 pm

Several times. Pomona freeway takes you all the way into the park. From UC Davis University.

Eye on the prize. I like these trophies 🏆 games.

We should have one with these schools too:
    Army
    Navy
UNLV ( Gold Pineapple? Was that confirmed ? )
    These are currently in place
    Air Force
    Wyoming

But, keep winning these conference games and there is that bigger prize at the end …..

    Warriors 36
    Cowboys 26

    Fifth idea post for a UH Football TV ad (fourth was posted Sept. 25th). It promotes UH’s rising popularity on the Mainland and features the recurring “Joe’s House Crew” that were featured in two other idea ads. {Disclaimer; may include information that may not be correct, the correct information however can be easily inserted}

[Fred and his friend Dan (visiting from Wisconsin) approaches Joe and “the Boys” as they attend a party at Joe’s house. The party is in honor of Joe’s Uncle. Dan appreciates being invited to accompany Fred to this “Hawaiian Style” party. The first scene ensues]

Fred introduces Dan. “Wassup Joe, Braddahs, this my friend Dan”. “Mainland Dan from Wisconsin”. (the gang obliges greetings). Then Dan says to Joe “Thanks for letting me come to your uncle’s party bro”. “What’s his name? I brought a card”. Fred interjects to Dan “brah no need one card, I brought poke”. (Fred holds up two containers of poke, with a wide grin). Fred also declares “And his name is Uncle, in fact, all the older guys at this party you gotta call all of them Uncle”. Dan asks “really?”. Joe and the gang all nod and shrug in agreement.

In the second scene Fred says “Anyway, Dan is gonna come with us to the game tomorrow, he’s a big UH fan”. Dan interjects ” My friends and I are huge UH fans, we catch their games whenever we can”. “They got that sleek style and look that’s so exciting to watch, and as a Spectrum subscriber in my hometown, I can even get Hawaii games on my tablet or mobile device, but getting to watch them LIVE with you guys… that’s going to be EPIC!” The entire gang celebrates and “woops” it up in honor of Dan’s excitement.

The next cut gives general information for viewing Hawaii games on the Mainland.

In the final scene Dan is holding a bag of chips in one hand and a bowl in his other hand with a pained expression on his face. Fred looks at him puzzled. Dan then says to Fred ” This has got to be the worst dip that I’ve ever tasted in my life”. Fred looks at the bowl and says “brah, that’s not dip that’s POI”. {as sound fades out} “How come you don’t know what is poi?” “Huhhhhhhh”.

Just an idea ad to promote the growing fan base on the Mainland. I hope they can promote the program there somehow. An ad similar to this might work.

#4 … “HAKA … agree 100% about Kaimana … also I too am waiting to see what Hekili can do … Mel Davis as well …

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS … !!!!!

  18. 808SEC October 3, 2018 6:46 am

I too am waiting to see what Hekili can do, but I am afraid he may not fit the current criteria that it appears UH is using for running backs. At 6’2″ 225 lbs with 4.5/4.6 speed he is not your typical bowling ball runner like Furuta or a slasher like the smaller backs. He’s just a big back with speed.

    #9:

the yellow section above us in the north end zone has bee closed off this entire season and going back to 2017 season.

I am a big fan of Kaimana Padello. Listed at 6’0 and 215 playing rush end and giving up almost 100 pounds on most Saturdays the kid has got a knack for getting to the QB.

  21. H-Man October 3, 2018 11:43 am

Listening to the re-broadcast of the “Call the Coach Show.” Rolo is much more relaxed and comfortable on the radio broadcast. He is rather stoic on the Nick Rolovich Show with Kanoa Leahy. I wonder why? Anyway, was interesting listening. Kudos to Bobby Curran for keeping it interesting as he moves the discussion along.
